After dry fitting the frame, I felt like the walnut was too plain,
so I decided to add some texture.
I was able to carve each board separately for ease of clamping but,
I had to put the miters together to carve at the seams so they matched.
After that, the oil.
Next time; the mat, in maple and koa.
Super cool! I wish my garage was heated so that I felt more compelled to work on my wood projects!
Question for you by the way, I found 2 really pretty featured cedar beam/planks at my work. They are about 10 feet long and 2"(true) by 11" but one of them is twisted. I've read u bunch about it and everywhere it says I shouldn't use it because of the twist. I really want to make a desktop with the 2 pieces and some other cool wood I've found. Any suggestions on how to use the twisted board? Could I cut it into shorter pieces, plane those flat and glue it up?

If you need it to look like a showroom piece, sure, be super picky about your wood. If you want a sturdy useful desk, use what you have. The main problem is how much untwist you might get as the seasons change. I would use breadboard ends on the desktop. Post some pictures of the wood and maybe a sketch with dimensions. What tools do you have access to?

Desk wise I really just want to make a flat counter top like surface 24" x 80", legs wont be an issue, I'm just using cabinets as the base under it. I like the breadboard idea. I have access to just about any tool ... and this is the wood...

Here’s my suggestion:
Saw the twisted board diagonally in line with the axis of the twist. Square the sides. Put the straight board in the middle. Glue it up. Maybe use some splines. Plane the whole thing flat. Square the ends. Add the breadboard ends.
If it is so twisted that you cannot flatten both sides without losing too much thickness, or if you want extra rigidity, try gluieng cross pieces into grooves on the bottom then flatten those and rest them on your cabinets.

Yeah, I even thought about doing hammered wood, but this walnut is a bit brittle.
