Note that there are three (3) parts to Jesus' last instruction and command that He gave to His disciples just prior to His ascension...this is found in Matthew 28:19:
- Jesus' first part of His statement specifically commanded that His disciples were to baptize in the name of the Father... (what is the Father's name?)
----the Apostles' response at Pentecost found in Acts 2:38: THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST!
- Jesus second part of His statement specifically commanded His disciples to baptize in the name of the Son... (what is the Son's name?)
----the Apostles' response at Pentecost found in Acts 2:38: THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST!
- Jesus' third part of His statement specifically commanded His disciples to baptize in the name of the Holy Ghost... (what is the Holy Ghost's name?)
----the Apostles' response at Pentecost found in Acts 2:38: THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST!
Notice, to the three pertinent parts of Jesus' last instruction and command to His Disciples they gave only one name! This is because the Apostles, with all of the teaching and instruction that Jesus had given to them concerning Himself, and the fact that He opened their understanding concerning Him beginning with Moses............... their only response could be the name of Jesus Christ! They understood that Jesus is our Heavenly Father who created all things--that He is the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End. They understood that this one God who had created all things would one day manifest Himself in flesh (1 Timothy 3:16)--this flesh would be the visible image of that invisible God (Colossians 1:15) who now stood before them. They understood this "another Comforter" (John 14:16) would be Jesus in "another" form, not a physical form, but a Spiritual form. Jesus told them that the Spirit of Truth was already dwelling with them, and that they already knew Him...........if the "another Comforter" were someone other than Jesus, then, the disciples would not already know Him and He would not already be dwelling with them.
The Apostles understood that Jesus is the Father....that Jesus is the Son....and, that Jesus is the Holy Ghost! The name of the Holy Ghost, according to the Apostles in Acts 2:38 (Jesus Christ) is in perfect harmony with what the Apostle Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 13:5, "...Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you...". Paul also tells us "...Christ in you, the hope of glory" (Colossians 1:27). The Apostles understood that Jesus' command did not refer to distinct persons of a Trinity but that "Father", "Son", "Holy Ghost" refer to the one name...that of Jesus Christ. Note that the Apostles' response made no hint of a distinction of names at Pentecost, nor was their response in Acts 2:38 a trinitarian response...but ONE name given that referred to all three parts of Jesus' command of Matthew 28:19. Jesus is Father (Creator)....Jesus is Son (Redeemer, flesh, humanity)...Jesus is Holy Ghost (the one who regenerates the believer to be like Him).
Ephesians 4:4-6
There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; [5] One Lord, one faith, one baptism, [6] One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
And that is JESUS CHRIST.
