My secret to higher productivity.

I’m one of those people who likes to have YouTube videos on in the background while working. They’re usually a video essay, webinar/lecture, or some kind of discussion between people (like a Joe Rogan show). Basically “low maintenance” videos vids where you don’t have to keep finding a new one every 10 minutes and they aren’t flashy or demanding of your undivided attention.

I don’t always like this because it sometimes feels like I can’t focus on what I’m doing if there isn’t some kind of background noise on. I’m assuming there are others who can relate. Not sure if it’s related to narcolepsy, or if it’s an anxiety or attention issue.

Two weeks ago, I decided that after a video finished, I would play a classical music video before having another “normal” video play again. They usually have playlists for similar, so there’s no need on my part to go find another one. I just have the next on play.

It’s honesty been a game changer for how I feel during the day. It also frankly stops me from having stuff on in the background — let’s face it, you’re not always in the mood for music, so sometimes I’m motivated to just do stuff without having the classical music on.

I haven’t been perfect at it, but the days that I have, it’s genuinely been better for my spiritual health, mental health, and productivity.

Figured I’d throw that out there in case anyone else has a similar issue and is looking for a way to beat it.
