I am writing daily to share my thoughts and conversations that I have had in the last 24 hours.
I co-lead a work-group of global experts grappling with the future of work for mature workers. The world of work is changing for all of us but the impact may currently reflect a different scenario for older workers within a few years of retirement.
Questions to think about:
How are HR departments managing the education of these workers? Are they preparing them for their next season of life? What if their next season is as long as their work life? Where does the responsibility sit?
How is the mature worker learning about their future? Who is educating them? Are they even aware that there are changes and that life will be different from their parents and grandparents? How much responsibility is the individual taking?
What policies are in place to ensure that older workers are protected and that deep ageism does not seep into the lives of the fifty plus generation. Are they seen as assets or human fodder?
These are the questions we are grappling with. It is such an honour to share ideas from across the globe.
Please share what your workplace is doing? Or if you are an individual how are you up-skilling yourself?
