Have you ever thought that blind people cannot ‘watch’ movies and enjoy them? I thought so too until I read this article from Our Better World about Bioskop Bisik. Founded by Ramya Prajna in Indonesia, Bioskop Bisik has given a lot of blind people the opportunity to enjoy movies again.
Seriously?! How do they do that? Well, with the help of volunteers, the blinds were paired up with them during the movies and the volunteers will describe whatever that is happening in the movies to the blinds. Doesn’t that sound cool?
What makes me amazed is that the things that Bioskop Bisik did are not just to give the blind a chance to enjoy movies, but it also cultivates the culture of learning from each other, caring for each other as well as having fun together without the barriers of being able to see or not.
It would be awesome if Malaysia has some initiative like this. I would definitely take part as a volunteer in this. What about you? If there are some activities like this, would you volunteer too?
