Bago paman nakamit itong tagumpay
Ang buhay ko noo'y wala pang kulay
Mga palad wari'y sa hanging inilalagay
Isang "talonan" na salita ako'y maipapalagay

Mga kabiguan sa akin sumubok
Ako'y nadapa kalooba'y naparopok
Kahinaan ko noon sa palibot umaalok
Isang alaala na pilit kumakatok

Sa paglipas ng daluyong na sa akin palaging kumakaway
Sa itaas ako'y tumingala't humingi ng gabay
Tumayo ako katatagan sumabay
Itong pagkatao natutong magsikhay

At sa karangalan nayon ako'y lumalahok
Hawak ko na ang haligi ng pagsubok
Ngayon tila di na maabut itong tagumpay na gabundok
Ako'y naparangalan ng gintong medalya sa mundong sumusontok
