My development of Wormhole Ventures has been stalled for some time due to some nasty networking stuff I needed to power through but kept having difficulty getting a day where I was not Interrupted. I took some vacation time to get past that yesterday through Friday. I did manage to get past that barrier yesterday, YAY!
So development should start moving along again.
Yesterday I accomplished the following:
- Network Instantiated the Player ships
- Setup 9 position points where ships might go on a hex to reduce clustering a bit once the action starts going. Some clustering is kind of a must for this game.
- Implemented panning map WSAD, and Arrows
- Implemented Zooming In/Out using mouse wheel and or page up/down
- Redesigned Radial Menu layout
That was yesterday.
Today I am actually working on making the radial menus and clicking on hexes do something so I can start getting the ships moving.
I designed the system so the server is very authoritative. It will actually tell the clients what their radial menu should show at any given time, and has some other techniques that could help reduce cheating in multiplayer if that EVER is remotely an issue.
Server actually handles all movement, clients are input and display only.
I posted this as I'm busy coding, and messing with UI layouts and such so I am not as active on steemit. I do however have the ability to zoom in/out and pan around so I decided I'd do a quick post with a status update and give you a few never before seen screenshots.
Right now all the player ships are using shipset 0 out of 11 possible choices.
All of these maps are randomly generated, but my map editor that I'll use to build missions and such supports fully random like these, to combinations of random and not random. I have a lot of dreams about this game and if we can get them to do what they do in my head then I am hoping it'll be fun and a quite unique experience.
Map sizes come in 5x5, 7x7, 9x9, 11x11, and 13x13. The screen shot above is a 13x13. The one below is a 5x5.
EDIT:The images can appear quite dark when surrounded by the white borders of steemit. - I recommend right clicking on the image and viewing it separate from the post if you want it not to seem as dark. Most of them are clips from a 1920x1080 screen.
Steem On!

I have to be honest about two things right now: Being htooms while the rewards are flocked up, on april fool's day, is freaking hilarious.
And
I voted up your post without reading it. I have had a bit of alcohol, so it's getting a little more difficult to concentrate. However, @son-of-satire's tribute to you in the userchain, which is all complete truth, is enough to vote up your post, whatever it may be, lol.
