The NavaDurga, nine living goddesses is a unique religion and tantric practice here in Bhaktapur legends and chronicles tell us that Ananda Malla (12th century), king of Bhaktapur, was instructed by the Navadurga to set up their images in proper places,''to ensure the security and protection of the town both internally and externally''.
