lagos weekly record was established by john payen jackson in 1891. it was one of the formost nationalist newspaper. the effort ofthe newspaper in nationalist struggle was notable such that the first school of jounalism in west african was named after the proprietor.
the paper criticised discrimination against black. it also citicised british land tenure system, it opposed the shaving of the hair of african chief and consideredm it an act of dehumanising.
the proprietor died along the line but son took over. the paper went out of circulation in1930.
