Life Hurdles and Changes- two 55-word stories

in writing •  7 years ago

For your reading pleasure I present two more 55-word stories. These are harder to write than you might imagine. If you haven't tried keeping yourself to just 55 words it's a challenge. Normally, you have to think about how you're going to double cross your audience. You also need to foreshadow it. You want something that makes people think about it after they've read it. But you can't monologue it. Have to show it... and give it a twist or leave them hanging.

I'm happy to toss some upvotes to folks that want to write a 55 word response in the comments.

Aggy

I got this.
She crouched down waiting for the gun.
Sideways glances showed Olympic competition.
They got this too though.
Set. Game face on. Bang.
Run, jump, run, jump
Photo finish.
Exhaustion.
A million memories of practice all leading up to this moment.
She started as a kid. Sprints every day.
And the judges declare...

It used to be Mirror Mirror, but now she says Magic Mirror.
Sex in the City? NO!!! Sex and the City.
If you build it he will come.
What does it all mean?
My heart skipped a beat when it moved!
Toto, I've got a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore.
Toto Says "Definately not."

Eyes closed but mind awoken
Reality stared at you,
As you tend to make plans
And set your dreams high.
It starts with "I can do this"
Then set motion into it.
At the end, one will say.
"I just did it".
Dreams never comes true if you don't go for it.

Chase that Dream

And the judges declare...
Positive for testosterone.
Ancient alchemists knew this trick.
Silver becomes gold.
Ancient politicians knew this trick.
One nation's shame, another's miracle.
Sacrificial pawn banned for life.
Taken off the chessboard, privileges revoked.
Bring in another player and guess the color.
We always guess white.
Jingoism meets Pravda and the party continues.

a very good try.i like it

sir @aggroed you blew my mind with this work of poetry. This is all about life as a whole, you just summarized everything about life with just this few words of poetry.

Life is just like a race, and with lots and lots of hurdles to jump, you can't jump over then you become stagnant to one position. Life is all about challenges and meeting up your daily task, but the challenges in life is what makes a champion and a master.

Wow, i have done 300 words story and i know how hard that was but to do 55 words i know will be harder because like you said, you have to capture the audience with short limited word and you have done wonderfully well, thanks for sharing and look forward to mine own 55 words story too..cheers.

LIFE

Rosemary nagged her husband always for not being romantic. She accused him for not getting down to open the car door for her as her friend Jane's husband does. What Rosemary didn't know was that Jane's husband's car had a faulty door that could only be opened from the outside! Our lives is differently unique

nice story

Wonderful writeup
Well done
It engaged me as you predicted

Very appreciate post its helfully

...a winner. But for whom did she win? Herself? Yes, just rewards for life given to a dream. The greater winners however were the women who competed, for she drove them to run their greatest race. And you and I? We wept for joy, for she showed us the potential of every one of us.

You might wonder... a talking dog? Indeed, not only are humans enhanced in 2040 but so too are our pets. Especially dogs. Cats? Not so much. Enhancement just made them more...catty! Horses? Yes, they could speak now. Problem. Everyone stared naming their horses "Mr. Ed." Not my horse though. My horse prefers "Shadowfax."

Sex in the City? NO!!! Sex and the City.
Sex in the countryside would have been more appropriate.
Man your words are awesome.

excellent contribution friend I liked a lot, continue like this greetings

55 words is really short and you do t realize it u til you start reading/writing. It should be called a long haiku short story Challenege. To be honest, I dont think you really showcased your writing talents here. I expected a little more play on words. How about another go at it and really let your feels show

Cuanta intensidad en solo 55 palabras... Todas y cada una de tus palabras hilvanadas de tal manera que cuenten o hagan contar, imaginar o enlazar una historia, me encantó @aggroed

Gracias por compartirlo.
