My Wife Thinks Content Marketing Is A Waste Of Time In The Short Run

Earlier today, my wife and I were talking about starting my consulting business and how I could begin to find new clients. My main ideas were to keep blogging here, post on Medium and making YouTube videos to share ideas and teach different strategies I’ve learned over the years.

My wife didn’t think this was a good idea because, in her opinion, content marketing won’t produce results for at least a few months and thus isn’t worth the effort or time today.

It’s never easy starting something new without a built-in audience. It feels like you put in a lot work making a video or writing a blog post for only a handful of people to actually read it.

She’s probably right about the short run. At the beginning, I may only receive a tiny bit of attention. However, I understand that as long as I’m consistent about sharing on these platforms, the audience will build and become an asset stronger than most other things I could do at this point.

And what better way is there to build up KLT with the people I want to help than creating content! What’s KLT?

1. Know: Potential clients need to know who I am. Using sites like Medium, YouTube and Facebook allow me to tap into huge groups of people who currently don’t have a clue who I am or what I’m doing.
2. Love: Giving people quality content on a consistent basis allows people to love what I’m about. If you are anything like me, there are some authors here on Medium and a few YouTubers that I LOVE to see every single thing they put up online.
3. Trust: The more I share about my personal life and my business experience, the more you will grow to have trust in me and what I’m talking about. Very few people will do business with people they don’t trust.

I’m excited to begin this journey of sharing myself and my ideas with you! It’s going to be a process creating content and then refining it over time to create my unique voice that resonates with people. I understand it won’t all happen overnight and that makes me even more excited. Let’s do this!
