Cat Pun Album, Track One (Lyrics and Discussion)

in writing •  7 years ago

Hey guys! I haven't mentioned this (or anything) in a while, but I recently finished writing the songs for my cat pun album, and as I get ready to practice and record them, I thought it'd be cool to let y'all in on the process and also allow you first look at the lyrics.

Real quick, for background, the "cat pun" album came about as part of a conversation with my friend Luci, and I opted to write and record ten songs with cat pun titles (but not cat related lyrics) before her and I go on our road trip to visit another friend. I'd give her the album and it'd be super cool.

For you guys, since I love Steemit, I plan to make the album available to you and, at a later date, I'm going to hold SBD preorders. In short, for 2 SBD, no matter how much it's worth, you can preorder a CD. And, if the preorders go well, maybe we can discuss vinyl and other merch. My friend Keno Nifty is doing amazing artwork for it, and I'm sure it'd make for some cool t-shirts!

Okay, without further ado, here's the first song from "The Whole Kitten Kaboodle:"

Track One: Catturday Knight Live!

This is not original album art for the Cat Pun album. I'll let y'all see it when I get it. This is by Leonardo Batista

I'm sick of this bus stop way of living,
This five-over-the-speed-limit way I've driven,
I need a hand in finding out where my worth lies.
I'm chasing peddles to look for an ocean,
And chasing my feet to follow the notion,
That God is love, and love is real and true.

Chorus:
You're glorified over all this mess,
Be the light that lies in my every breath,
And when I speak let the Earth hear my voice,
The God of love can have all that's left of me.

I seem to waste days staring at screens and music doctors,
My weeks run together like lines from William Faulkner,
I mean, really, I've done the same thing for too long.
I need a future where my faith is stronger than this,
I need a notebook paper, grocery-style list,
Where I wrote down all the ways I've made Jesus proud.

Bridge:
I'd give up all these silver coins to have my Jesus back.

Discussion(ish)

Okay, so these lyrics are kinda obvious. I've been working on myself as a Christian and I've wanted to do more worship-y songs. This one is more fast paced, and is in my aboriginal acoustic folk-punk vein, but I think I'm ultimately very happy with how it sounds.

Hopefully, my next post will be a single from the album, but we'll see. ;P I've been waiting for word from Keno to get some recording rolling and I'd also like to have some art to show y'all.

But thanks for reading! You guys are cool, and if you're interested in the SBD preorder (Or vinyl!), let me know! I'd love to hear anything else you'd like to say too ;D

Goodnight and God bless <333

Great Lyrics! Can't wait to hear the music and find out if it matches the tune I hear in my head. I'm a big fan of puns so I love the idea what I don't get is why the titles are then not related to the songs? Or are they, just not on a cat level? Mhm, lots of questions. ;)

I talked about it in my first blog post about the album, but basically, I have this friend who gave me the puns and told me to make them into songs but she explicitly said not to have the lyrics do anything with cats. Now, how I've written them is I'd write the title of the song in my notebook and then the words just start flowing, so even though they're not related to the titles, the titles inspire what comes out.
I hope you follow along to find out if your tune is correct! And thanks for reading! :D
