Ego Candy - Writers Block Poetry Contest Week 2

in writing •  7 years ago  (edited)

The following is my entry for week two of @thewritersblock's poetry contest. The prompt for this week was to write a poem inspired by James Wright’s “Lying in a Hammock at William Duffy’s Farm in Pine Island, Minnesota”

Ego Candy

Unblemished pavement eats the heat.
Rubber lies on tar like velvet velcro.
The apple-shine of a fresh detail.
Motorized growls massage my ears.
Stick-shift, gasoline rush, power
Sucks me to my seat, propels
Me to a record mass velocity.
I have wasted my money.
