Charlie Chaplin, was a British actor, comedian, composer, screenwriter and director. He is undoubtedly one of the most recognized actors and comedians worldwide.
He was born on April 16, 1889 in London, England and, although he had many nicknames, such as Charlie, Charlot and The Little Tramp, his first name was Charles Spencer Chaplin.
The first time he got on stage was when he was 5 years old; he sang a song that was meant to be sung by his own mother; but this one had become ill at the time of the performance, hence that little Charlie Chaplin replaced his mother.
Chaplin arrived in the United States in 1910, at the age of 21 years. New York seemed like a great place to start, so he tried to become a professional actor. Two years later, in 1913, Chaplin signed his first contract in Keystone and shortly after entered Hollywood. His first film premiered in 1914, "Making a Living." Only in that year he made more than 35 films. His rise to popularity was unlike anything normal people had seen, but since he had grown up with his parents' fame in the theater, it was not new to Chaplin.
He grew up to become one of the most popular and successful actors of all time. The moment in which he really began his long career was in 1921 when he starred in and produced his first feature film entitled "The Kid". As of that moment, the great majority loved his films.
Among his most famous films, include "Modern Times" (1935),
"Lights of the City" (1931)
and "The Great Dictator" (1940).
Albert Einstein told Chaplin once when they met.
"What I've always admired about you is that your art is universal, everyone understands and admires you,"
Chaplin responded:
"His is much more worthy of respect, everybody admires him and practically nobody understands it".
