Plane Crash
“I can just imagine why not. I thought that 2RoT had told the Feds ‘what for’ about military aircraft in the republic.” Julie was outraged.
“I guess the Feds ignored it.” Alvin said “That was a mistake. We chased that van right down the side of the runway toward that airplane. Shelby told me to keep the van between us and the plane. The guys in the van had opened windows and was shooting at us. I was shooting back at them. Ivan didn’t care. An armored Russian Track has some advantages. Still, the bullets were distracting.”
“I’ll fix that kid.” I heard the old man say “ Alvin said “ a light fog formed in front of us, between us and the van.”
“ ‘That’ll slow them bullets down some’ the old man cackled.” Alvin said. “And it did too. When the bullets hit the fog they slowed down like they’d hit water. It only worked one way. I could shoot just fine and that fog kept right up with us.”
“The old man told me again ‘ Stay close behind the van. Keep it between us and that plane. They have a heavy machine gun on that plane. The SSmoke is no good against those bullets. When you get close swing left. Go in right in front of the plane. Then ram it... dead center head on! The machine gun can’t shoot straight ahead. Ram the nose wheel! That’ll stop ‘em.” He said that the plane had a gatling gun side mounted in a door frame on one side, maybe both. We didn’t want to get into it’s field of fire. “ Alvin said.
“So I did that. Alvin said “I turned so hard that Ivan skidded sideways a bit. I did my best to keep out of the angle of that side gun. Barely made it. They shot at us with the gatling guns but couldn’t quiet make the traverse. I was afraid the pilot was going to swing the airplane so I shot him first.”
“You shot him?” Julie asked.
“Yup. I had pulled Granpa’s BAR out of the gun rack behind the seat. Then I steadied it on the dash and flipped the windshield up. I was planning on shooting the van driver but the airplane driver would do just as well. I must’a hit him cause the plane quit turning. I certainly blew out the plane’s windshield.” Alvin said.
“Then we hit. I run Ivan’s dozer blade right into that nose wheel, snapped it right off. The whole front end of the airplane would have plopped down Ivan except for more of that Fog. It appeared out of nowhere and held the plane up off of us. The old man bailed. “
“Bailed out?” Julie said “What do you mean bailed out. You said he didn’t have any legs? How could he bail out?”
“I guess he decided to not let the not having any legs part slow ‘em down.” Alvin said. “When Ivan’s dozer blade took out the nose wheel it slowed us down really fast. He purely catapulted, out the hatch and into the air, curled up tight like a cannonball, He sailed right thru where the windshield of that airplane used to be. I’d busted it out when I shot the pilot. “
“After that it got ugly.” Alvin told her.
