Some days I’m sure I have a serious problem inside my head. One day I feel like I’m a smart cookie, writing my thought out with ease, and on other days, I have serious glitches and I sounds like I’m having a stroke!
“This evening as I gazed out to the western sky to see the sunset, I saw very dynamic shades of orange and violet. I tried to catch them on film to the best of my ability, to share with you the beauty and power a colourful sunset holds. It never ceases to amaze me how the universe uses it’s canvas to express itself like a true artist.”
GLITCH!
“I took a picture of the sky. Look at it. It’s pretty. I like colours. Bye.”
Like how!? How does the same brain function so differently on different days and different times. It’s frustrating!
I think I am quite smart on average, I can type words in an orderly fashion, solve problems and talk about the subjects I am interested in. On other days, there is a tambourine monkey inside my head and I sounds like I am clinically retarded. It doesn’t matter what subject I try to write about, it just isn’t happening on some days.
When I’m in the right mood, writing comes fairly easy, now that I have been practising it more. I use more colourful language and versatile adjectives, the order of words flows better and the grammar is near perfect. Mind you, English is not my first language, so I don’t think I will ever be perfect in writing it.
I have spell check on, so it’s easy to notice if I just push the wrong key accidentally, but what a spell check doesn’t help with, is if the words are real ones, but just the wrong for that particular sentence. They are right in my head, and the sentence makes sense in my head, because I think I have written down the correct word, when I clearly have not. I just can’t see the error, because my tambourine monkey -brain writes it off as correct. On a regular day, I would immediately notice the error as I am writing.
There are too many times when I type something that sounds similar when spoken, or looks similar when written, but is a completely different word altogether. I’m trying to think of examples, but of course I can’t now. Okay, there is one, now, know and no, so easy to make a mistake. As, ass, you get the point, similar words, very different meanings. My glitchy brain would be great at making poems that rhyme…
I would understand my brain if it were to react with a stupid brain on days when I haven’t slept or eaten good, but it doesn’t. There is no real correlation between the two, the monkey brain just takes over when ever it damn well pleases. Slept two hours, feel super energetic, write a piece effortlessly, thinking to myself I am so damn smart, funny and witty.
Same day, some three hours later: dumdidumdumdudum look a squirrel, dumdidumdumdum me no good at this writing thingy. Me dumb dumb.
If someone dropped me on my head as a baby, it’s time to come clean. I promise I won’t be mad, I know accidents happen.
You could approach this problem, which is universal BTW, in infinite ways.
A classical, or Freudian if you will, would be that subconsciously you actually don't want to write, hence your brain is simply listening to your desires.
In a more modern view of the mind and brain, you could think of a metaphorical bucket of resources, which is always being drained by your activity and simultaneously being refilled. When you keep the level of drainage and refilling at equilibrium you are basically on your average game. But certain actions tend to drain your resources a bit faster, and afterwards, you need to compensate so that the bucket can be refilled.
Your statement that there is no correlation between what you've been doing before and how dumb you sometimes get to be afterwards is a bit of an understatement. There is a correlation, you just don't see it.
But I would take a wild guess that you are looking for one when you observe that you are not at your peak, which is not exactly an ideal time to expect omniscient revelations.
Also, so I don't get your hopes up that everything will be OK if you just wait for the bucket to be refilled, let me just point that the pool of resources that is refiling your smart-bucket is actually finite. So things will get worse as you travel further from your point of birth.
Or you could have been dropped on your head as a child...

Hmmm, so much to choose from! Of course there much be reasons for my dumb days, but on a surface level, they are not easy to spot. That being said, I'm not too worried really, I just take it as it comes, and try to work more on the days when I have the smart brain ON. As in everything, it all just takes more practise, and my brain sure needs it.
I would like to just blame something that happened on my childhood, isn't that the way to go these days?

Of course - you and the group that you identify with are oppressed and therefore you are unable to express yourself.
And me being a white privileged male pig, naturally didn't even considered that you are suffering because of reasons...

I don't blog or write. So I cannot identify. But if it helps... I quite often forget my own name when introducing myself to someone in person. The brain is a weird place.

I know you are a smart person in general so maybe we can let the name forgetting slide, even if it's your own that you forget!

LOL 😂 I think my brain works like that most of the time and I consider everything else a bonus 😜
Post is good. And funny. I like it.
Good luck for your brain.

I have the same glitch, maybe a brain surgeon would give us writers a group discount.
I dont think it is a glitch per se, but, too many thoughts trying to cram their way into first place at once. I wish my mind was more ordered, but, it tends to just do what it wants most of the time.
Sometimes I just have to hang on for the ride, wait for the chaos to subside. Look, now its rhyming, why?
It is like an unruly roommate you cannot kick out.
Glad I am not alone in this, thanks for sharing!

Write 1000 words every day for a year. It's quite difficult to have writer's block when you write every day, that's the secret no one is telling you ha!

Don't worry - normal thing, we all have the same, foggy autumn - foggy brain and thoughts ;)... but really - autumn time is in one way - very creative time of the year, all the colours and changing nature makes me feel really full of insprations, but in other way - I would just sit down with a bottle of wine, somewhere with a nice view outdoor, and just do nothing - writing clear thoughts is a problem when Your thoughts are flying high above Your head...

But I do love the foggy weather, and I find it very inspiring! ;) I don't know what it is, but usually it's not about the weather even when it comes to writing, it effects a lot more on the photographic inspiration, obviously.

Don't worry Eve - you are not the only one! I seem to inflicted with the odd "spoonerism" which is an error in speech where you mix up the letters! Such as I hissed all the mystery lessons / meant to be "missed all the history lessons"- and I talk of having a train bumour sometimes too... anyway lood guck, I mean look good today, I mean best wishes for a full functioning brain today!

I think what you are referring to is focus, or lack thereof.
We all get those times when its all working well and tasks seem easy, all of your attention is on that task and you are not easily distracted.
Other times it seems like your brain is full of fog, and you will do almost anything else over trying to get that task done.
Im not sure if there is a quick fix, but I think focus is trainable, so the more you try the easier it will become. Of course its important not to be tired, or ill, so make sure you are well fed and well slept. Excercise also helps.

I definitely have problems focusing, that I know. There are so many other things to be done and even if I want to write, my mind keeps escaping to other things. Yet I don't do anything else either, nothing reasonable, I just am, what a waste of time!

If things are on your mind, and you cant seem to get them out, write them down. In a sense fighting it doesnt help. I dont mean put it all on steemit, but if you cant focus because your "cat is ill at the vet", then write down how that is making you feel, once it is on paper, it no longer needs to live in your head. Now you are free to focus on what you really want to do.
Im full of shit though, I dont practice what I preach! In fact Im going to write something down right now thats been bugging me, trying to help you has helped me, thanks Eve.

I can totally relate. Some days I just don't have anything come to my mind when I sit down to write a post. At least I rarely get that way with painting! lol

I have a lot of ideas, but if it's a dumb brain day, I just can't form sentences around the idea. It's great that you don't have the same problem with another creative outlet!

I bet a lot of creative people, artists, photographers and even musicians feel that way. I'm not able to write anything at all 90% of the time. It wasn't really an issue or a big deal until social media came along then it became a source of self judgement as in "Why can't i do this like them? I should have majored in creative writing or journalism..."
Steemit amplifies this even more than any other site. Sometimes i wonder what Picasso or Gauguin or Caravaggio would write here? I picture some epic rants and an onslaught of flag wars. I just noticed i said picture not think or write. Lol, well there you go!
May the lords of words have mercy on us ; )

Not everyone has to be a writer, but it of course helps if you want to say something on a social media platform. I don't think you should be beating yourself up about it, because you don't have to write if you don't want to. Well, neither do I, but because this is my "job" and I know it's beneficial to write well.
This platform is not the greatest place for someone who would only want to share paintings or pictures, one masterpiece every once in a while. Not if they are expecting to get paid handsomely for it. But what I do see a lot of, is artists sharing progress photos and talking about their creative process, that is something I find very interesting!
