Teaching is all deliberate effort in order to give the possibility for students to the learning process in accordance with the objectives that have been formulated. The above definition is in line with the view of William H Burton, who said that: teaching is an effort in giving stimulus (stimulus), guidance, direction and encouragement to students to happen learning proes.
According to Nana Sujana teaching is to guide students in teaching and learning activities or contain the sense that teaching is an attempt to organize the environment in relation to students and teaching materials that lead to the process of teaching and learning.
According to H. M. Arifin the definition of teaching as an activity to convey the lesson material to the students, in order to receive, respond, and develop the lesson material.
Arifin (1978) defines that teaching is a series of activities to deliver lessons to students, in order to receive, respond, master, and develop the lesson material.
Tyson and Caroll (1970) argue that teaching is a way of working with students. . . A process of interaction, the teacher does something to student, the students do something in retern. From the definition is illustrated that teaching is a way and a process of mutual relationship between students and teachers who are equally active in activities.
Nasution (1986) argues that teaching is an activity to organize or regulate the environment as well as possible and connect it with children, resulting in the learning process.
Tardif (1989) defines teaching as any action performed by an individual (the teacher) with the intention of facilitating learning in another individual (the learner), which means teaching is the act of a person (in this case an educator) with the aim of helping or facilitating others (in this case learners) do learning activities.
Biggs (1991), a psychologist, divides the concept of teaching into three kinds of understanding, as follows:
- Quantitative understanding, where teaching is defined as the transmission of knowledge, that is knowledge transmission. In this case the teacher only needs to master the knowledge of the field of study and convey to the students with the best. The problem is whether or not the students succeed, not the responsibility of the teacher.
- The institutional understanding of teaching means the efficient orchestration of teaching skills, which is the structuring of all teaching skills efficiently. In this case the teacher is required to readily adapt various teaching techniques to students who have different types of learning as well as different talents, abilities, and needs.
- Understanding qualitative where teaching is defined as the facilitation of learning, which is an effort to help facilitate the learning activities of students looking for their own meaning and understanding.
CONCLUSION:
From the definition of teaching put forward by the experts above, it can be concluded that teaching is a systematic activity of an environment consisting of education and learners to interact with each other in an activity so that the learning process occurs and teaching objectives are achieved.
