Let me begin by saying that the purpose of this write up is not to teach you how to write a quality blog post. Instead, I write to teach you how to write a blog post that will be read to the end.
There are a number of quality blog posts that were never read to the end by readers; so what went wrong? This write up intends to answer this question.
Here are five practical tips to make readers stay glued to your blog posts to the end.
BE BRIEF
First, you must understand that readers are, as a rule, impatient. They want to get off your blog post as fast as possible. Therefore, it follows that you keep your blog posts as short as possible. Learn to keep out the irrelevant details. This way, you'll keep your readers engaged.
FLOW IS KEY
Imagine a vehicle without fuel; that is what your blog posts become when flow is lacking in it. Flow is the alignment of your thoughts, how your words are woven together. When there is flow in your blog posts, readers will most likely read it to the end.
PARAGRAPHS ARE POWERFUL
Never underestimate the power of paragraphs in your blog posts. I have seen a few sloppy blog posts here on Steemit, many of which I did not read to the end. It doesn't matter how many upvotes those blog posts get.
When using paragraphs in your blog posts, ensure that each paragraph conveys a point. Also, make sure that the next paragraph is built on the previous paragraph and so on. This way, your readers will find it hard to skip your blog posts and will be forced to read them from start to finish.
ILLUSTRATE YOUR BLOG POSTS WITH CAPTIVATING PICTURES
The average reader is lazy and is only willing to read his own bank statements. And guess what? Your blog post is not a bank statement. How then do you keep your readers spellbound to your blog post? The answer is simple. Illustrate your blog posts with captivating pictures, if possible.
"A Picture is worth one thousand words"
PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR GRAMMAR
Nobody enjoys reading a blog post that is written in a horrible grammar. So, pay attention to your grammar when writing on Steemit. Make sure you follow at least the simple grammar rules, especially those involving punctuations and concord.
Readers are easily thrilled when blog posts are expertly written. A blog post with good grammar, indeed, has a great advantage over those with poor grammar. Good grammar builds a writer's reputation but a bad grammar ruins it.
