We Indians are seriously lack of good manners. Not that everyone is lack of it but the maximum percentage of people are ignorant or ignominious. Many people do not have any slight knowledge about their public conversations. Late president Dr. APJ Abdul kalam has rightly said that we behave nicely in other countries but forget when we are in our own country. We spit tobacco and beetle nuts, paan everywhere from streets, public walls and buildings, hospitals. Where there is signboard of not littering, there we can find most dirty. How can a government can clean the waste of a 1.25 billion people? It is literally not possible to do so. We have to deal with our waste materials by our self. We can clean our house and neighborhood, being a responsible citizen by not littering public places and helping to recycle the waste materials.
I have read that Britishers are most dirty in their personal life. They do not change their underwear for weeks and regularly bathe. Whereas we Indians bathe for two to three times a day and change underwear almost daily. But why Britain is one of the most beautiful and clean country? Because they are very sincere in their public life and never litter any public place. They are very conscious about their cleanliness of their household and neighbors. We have to learn from them.
Other than littering, many people are lack of common sense and manner of communication. They forget to close your gate while entering your compound and public places like library, community hall etc. Some never let you finish your word or do not let you even start your word. They are the most quirky person in the world and wise one in their own eyes. They know anything and everything. There is another kind which thinks of themselves as the smartest person in the universe. They most of the time instruct others and cracks jokes on them. But they never do a work, specially manual work is disgraceful according to them. So, how to teach them Good manners? No, we can not. If they themselves do not realize their faults then we can do nothing to change them as if we try to correct them now they will be angry and likely to insult us. These good habits and manners are to be inculcate in the childhood by their parents. Therefore, we have to train our parents to rear their child correctly with good manners and morality in them.
Thanks for your great insights into Indian culture. Interesting perspective on how a culture with poor hygiene maintains a cleaner society while in a culture with better hygiene the streets are dirty... Perhaps this comes from a higher understanding and value of self over the material world? It's all going to rot and decay away anyways after all?
