"Goodbye Steemit! Thank You Minnows"
Unfortunately, this is something I've heard many times before. Fellow Steemians who're "struggling" to get recognition and to earn rewards. Many of them blame the "system" and they tell us that the system isn't fair.
Yesterday, I stumbled upon one of these people.
And I thought that I would share the things I wrote on the article.
This Is What I Told Him:
He Replied Back With This:
And This Was My Last Comment:
That Being Said...
I've been here for 20 months. I am active and I spend 40+ hours per week on Steemit. I do something on Steemit 7 days per week. I have gained 2180+ followers since I joined Steemit and it wasn't until now, during these few recent weeks things started to roll for real. One can see it like I've been doing a ton of groundwork during this whole time and finally have been able to get the ball rolling. The snowball effect is powerful and great. - However, I have been rewarded more than well on several articles during this time, and I have had an amazing experience. It's been a steep learning process and an amazing journey. Including all the ups and downs I've had.
I won't lie. I've had my fair share of ups and downs and I'll most likely continue to have those in the future too. I am aware of it. And that's okay. Sure, I don't want these downs, but it's okay, because I believe that everything I do right now, will have an impact for the things that'll come in the future. - I will continue to work hard and I will most likely continue to struggle... - But I am prepared for that.
Steemit welcomes everyone. No matter where you're from or whatever education, job or experience you have. What you must ask yourself, is if you have what it takes to be here.
There is a chance and a possibility that you'll earn hundreds of dollars on your very first post. No matter the quality of it. But that's not likely to happen.
What's more likely, is the fact that you'll have to grind, and continue to grind and be active and do a bunch of things before you'll start to see some success.
But wouldn't you rather do that now, when Steemit is still young and still in beta? Instead of doing it when there's even more competition out there?
Steemit is young, we're in the beginning of 2018. - The longer you wait to start, the longer you'll have to wait to see results. - 2018 will be an awesome year for Steemit... And even though I personally believe that 2019 will be an even better year for us... I definitely recommend that you start now.
Did you earn $1 from your first article or did you earn $5 in total during your first few days on Steemit?
- That's awesome.
Steem is worth ~$6.50 right now and SBD are worth ~$7.20. Your $1 or $5 is valued 7 times that in USD. And before you start thinking that Steemit is "unfair". - How much have you ever earned from Facebook or Twitter?
- Oh, zero? - Just like I thought!
Dig this man... I really needed this today.
Things have been tough over here. Even with all the people commenting on my posts and the support I'm getting, sometimes it's still really tough to keep going on. ESPECIALLY when you see what that guy was talking about. When people are making far less quality work and getting major $$$, it's very frustrating... BUT... You are right. I just have to keep on trucking, and eventually will get noticed for what I have to offer.
Keep going man, am glad you are starting to see the ball really rolling, you deserve it!

Here you go. A few extra cents. :)
I totally understand you and I can still relate to all of this. Even after 20 months. It can be very frustrating but the fact is, that if you continue to push yourself, you will be rewarded for your contributions. Sooner or later.
It's obviously not fun to see a lousy meme get $200+ when you've been working for 4 hours on your article and you earn $1. - That often feels terrible. I get that and I feel that too.
However, what I've realized during my time here, is the fact that I wouldn't have earned a single cent from those contributions elsewhere, so each cent I make, is more than I would've got... And each cent matters. That's why I'm thankful for everything I get and each supporter I have.

Picture a restaurant where everyone outside is hungry.
The door opens, and the staff announces "free food for everyone"
People happily sit down, and everyone eats.
At some point, one person looks at the next table and gets angry.
"Hey! That guy is eating expensive steak, and I just got a hamburger and fries. That is not fair!"
People forget, the food is free. Don't concern yourself with what other people are eating. The fact everyone is eating for free is more important.

hello I am new in this beautiful community I only have 31 days and if I have noticed that in the beginning it is very hard
when one starts, until one time I used a bot to see profit and it was lost, in my first days I published and nobody gave upvote to my post, a friend @intelliguy advised me to make friends because that is the key to success in steemit he has helped me a lot to emerge in this world called steemit, if I have noticed that the system here is managed by means of bot to be able to have great profit, but I do not use them I prefer
earn my upvote to pure effort of my.

I am much like you. I have also not been fond of the bid bots, and even though I have used them rather frequently from time to time, I have always used them to place small bids, just to increase my earnings a little bit. However, I have realized that literally everyone, especially the authors on the trending pages, are using bid bots on a daily basis to increase the pending rewards... So I have to admit, that even though I would prefer not to use them. I will start to use them more often, but I will still place small bids to not mess up the chances for other authors who're placing bids in the same rounds.

Hi @hitmeasap, thank you for sharing this. I understand his sentiments about some posts earning more than other posts with more valuable content, especially if you've work for a number of hours or even days for a single post. And sometimes, it's just really sad to see that some posts are not being recognized appropriately.
But what I don't like and refuse to understand is his attitude as if if things doesn't work in his favor, he'll just give up just like that, and it looks like as if he wants an immediate gratification and he's only been here for 7-days. Let's face it, life has never been fair, ever. What sets aside successful people from the others under these unfairness in this world is their persistence to succeed, to succeed not just in a matter of 10 or 15 posts, or in a matter of days, but to succeed with a lot of hard work, persistence, and never giving up.
He's saying he's seen a lot of imbalance in the system and will just come back if things have changed? Why doesn't he just use those observations and initiate the change himself? Surely giving up will not change anything for him. And surely he'll be rewarded as well if he continues to stay with an equal amount of hardwork.
In my 1 month of stay here in Steemit, I've seen some of my "batchmates"(steemians who registered on the same day/month as I did) who are now doing a lot better than I do. I do sometimes feel a little discouraged and sometimes feel that this is not for me, but that is just a phase. I don't allow it to take over for me to just give up, I'm not a quitter. I actually envy him as he can make more than 10 posts in just 7 days, while I struggle for days just for a single post.
I hope he understands that everybody have their own timing/pace. Some may have reached the top faster than you did, but if you just continue with your journey, no matter how long or tough things may become, for as long as you do not stop, you'll get there.
This has been my mantra for quite a while now, because I don't only experience this here in Steemit, I experience it in my waking life. And I cannot and will not just quit just because other's reached the top faster than I did.
I'd just like to thank you for sharing this as this has been a very good motivation for us to continue our journey here.
BTW, I just checked his account and I guess he'll continue to steem-on. 😉

This was an awesome comment. Thank you very much, I appreciate it. There's literally nothing more to add to this, than: "Keep up the good work!"
I also agree with you about staying here and to be active and try to make a change, instead of leaving Steemit and wait until changes have been made. - That's literally to make others do the work for you, and that doesn't really work. Thank you once again!

I’ve never really understood the it’s not fair argument. So little in life is fair.
I might as well complain that it’s not fair that the CEO of my company makes more in a week than I’ve made in a lifetime. Simply complaining about it will do me not one damn bit of good.
But I can put some effort into helping build the Steem ecosystem, and maybe in the not too distant future, I’ll be able to leave that job and pursue other life options, in part because of the growth of the Steem ecosystem that I’ve helped to build.

Haha yeah. Well said and I agree with you. What I also don't understand is why many newcomers are saying "it's not fair" and they're miserable and sad because they don't earn as much as others... When they've just joined and haven't even contributed to the platform...?
Talk about expecting the world for nothing. I've dealt with many clients during my years as a freelancer and I've never worked with people like that because they are truly impossible to satisfy. - It doesn't matter what you do or how much they get or whatever they get. They'll always want more.
So even if everyone would earn from all their posts, people would still not be satisfied in the long haul. Because some authors would always earn more than them.

very well constructed.....when I started I was excited for my first dollar, the entitlement is very obvious to some of us who have been around for a hot second......most (not all) who make it on here do so by a lot of hard work, they are free to scroll down my insanely long blog and chats to see why I make anything, and by no means am I making 200 a post and I am just fine with that, is from the generosity , appreciation from others we get anything

Exactly. I've made less than a dollar on many of my articles and I've made hundreds of dollars on some of them. It's basically a numbers game for someone who's not been blessed with insane dolphin/whale support. And the only thing you can do, is to continue to work hard. That's what it takes to increase your chances to earn more in the future.
Many of the newcomers doesn't see the endless struggles and the insane effort people have been putting in from the start. They just focus on the rewards they see right now, and think it's "unfair" because they can't earn the same. - And that's nuts.

To answer your question, NO I AM NOT A QUITTER. I must really thank people like @swissclive for giving me the opportunity to propel myself here in Steemit.
I unknowingly entered a competition which he organised and had $6.13 in one of my comment section.
I said,"Hello swissclive, may I be humbled that you visit my blog because I am very serious on writing original content on my life and I will work hard to write at least a post every day."
This was the competition which I joined. Just today, @drakos just gave me a little upvote on my comment.
What I am trying to say is that newbies must follow the format of Steemians on which they had build their success. Engaging and commenting constructively and you will be rewarded. I admit that I am tinkering with bidbot such as @buildawhale to get visibility on my blog post. I am not going to use the bot everyday just once every 7 days is my plan to keep my blog on par in terms of the visibility.
Planning and scheduling your content roadmap is also crucial to your success because if you are stuck, you will not be publishing quality content. A very great conversation you have there with the guy with a mature mentality. I hope the guy would change his mind and began to put serious input into Steemit.
This is the longest comment I have written. Your article had been upvoted!

This is really good. I personally never plan my content in that sense that I'm planning when I'll publish something and/or at which time I will do it. I just publish whatever I want to, whenever I feel like.
However, I do produce an average of ~2 articles per day. Often 3 and sometimes even 4 per 24 hours. That being said, that also leaves me with a couple of days when I'll only be able to share 1 article too, which isn't what I personally want. I want more than that, so if I planned things better, I would also be able to produce 2 articles per day, everyday.
I am honored and you've been rewarded for your efforts! :)

Perhaps he's used to getting what he wants with little to no effort and is thus surprised when reality came knocking. Life is hardly fair. Although he did make good points. In any case, he's just not stubborn enough to hold his ground for longer. 7 days is hardly enough to judge the entire platform. But then again, everything is a matter of perspective. He sees Steemit as a mountain. Others see it as a mountain worth climbing. Perhaps down the line, when Steemit hits it bigger, he'll look back to now and think of what ifs and if onlys.

It's never fair and you can't just quit, you stick at it, work hard, and eventually it pays off. I myself don't make a lot without bidbots on occasion, or whale votes, but I stuck at it and it paid off over time.
But if they quit then well not much you can do, they will if they are going to.

Exactly... But a bunch of people doesn't seem to realize that. Many of them (I'm not saying that the user I talked to yesterday about this is like that) seem to believe that they will earn a shit ton of money for basically nothing, without effort and for whatever crap they share. - Sure, that might work if you're a whale or a dolphin, but most of these people do not use Steemit like that, because they're trying to keep their investment safe and they want to build this platform instead of raping it. - There will always be people with more rewards, support or benefits than you. No matter where you are in life. The same goes for Steemit. - But you can change things to your favour. It all comes down to what you do.

Lol "whale-fishing"... i'm learning something new all the time. He summed up the frustrated new joiner pretty well.
Over time, as a steemit middle class emerges, that should alleviate some of the issues with curation, not getting a fair share etc.
A whale voting on spam posts can't be avoided without some sort of a police force in my opinion but i hope we don't go there. Even in real life, minnows and dolphins swim around whales, and don't get in their way.

Exactly. Even though I don't like that whales might (or can) upvote garbage or shitposts, I still think it's better than having strict rules, guidelines and an army of cops around here telling you what you can and cannot do.
I also believe that everything will be better with time. Everyone will learn, grow and get a better understanding of things, and that's also when many of these things will come to an end. But I don't think that everything will stop or go away.

Im doing several things simultanously and I always use the speakit chrome addon to read posts so i havent read everything from the screenshots but yeah, it can feel unrewarding at the beginning when you haven't invested into some SP yourself. You have to go round comment all the time and hope somebody is generous. Not everyone is a influencer so some have it harder to grow. Content helps though :P

Yeah. And I can definitely relate to all of those feelings one might have. The feeling of being powerless, the feeling of being unworthy and disliked. - You get those feelings from to two things on Steemit. The first thing is the amount of rewards. The second thing is the amount of comments.
Both these things, are extremely valuable for the authors. That's also why I would never recommend anyone to expect any form of reward for their contributions. Not in terms of upvotes, and not in terms of comments or increased amount of followers. - These things take time, but it will get better with time.
Expect nothing and be pleasantly surprised for the rewards you get.

People who quit after a week don't realize how important persistence is. I honestly think that person was lying about growing thousands of followers on other platforms, or else he would not be saying stuff like that.
One YouTuber I follower did switch to here and did bring the audience over.

Exactly. I wonder if they behave like that in the "real world" too. To me, they are quitters. I can totally get if someone tried to do literally everything they could for a year or two without results. That would be something entirely different. That is the part I don't understand. People spend years getting paid from a following on other social media sites. Steem starts paying most people on their first post. But you aren't making 100$ per post so you will quit?
That makes no sense.
In this case they could have moved their follower base here and probably made 50 or 100 a post.
Some people just have an attitude problem I guess.
Thanks for the post.

These posts come up every now and then. Like you, i joined steemit right after launch in 2016. People were making $1000s of dollars on posts, but i was getting pennies(still do). It's just how it is. Popular bloggers get lots of traffic and votes. They should be rewarded for that. We just have to keep posting and maybe one day we will draw lots of traffic too.

Exactly! - People with large followings from YouTube or whatever, they already have an audience. If they bring all of them here, they should definitely be rewarded for that. Other authors, without a large following to begin with, will have to build their followings inside of Steemit. Then there's other factors like luck and such that plays a huge role in Steemit.

Ya I feel like steemit is like life. You put alot of work in to not get alot out of it. Although when you start "investing" In things you start to see a slow but steady growth. The same goes for this platform. I remember when I first started out I was making like $1 a day. Now This last week I am averaging about $20 a day. So slow and steady growth is that happens. I am about 5 months into things so it takes time but it is worth the wait. Also remember that every penny you earn on this platform could be worth a lot more in the months and years to come. I found this platform when steemit was priced at $.70 and now steemit is $6.00 So growth is slow but possible. Thanks for being a force for good in the community hitmeasap.

No. That would've been truly insane and really cool, but I think it's impossible for Steem or SBD to ever reach a value of 1 million dollars. I think however, that we will see Steem/SBD peaking at around $50 by the end of 2018 and aroud $100 at the time of 2019.
Many others seems confident in the fact that Steem/SBD will reach ~$100 by the end of 2018 already, but I think that's a little bit optimistic.
