Horror Stories(Fiction): The Cursed Bed & The Backseat Passenger (Featuring @babybear as author)

in writing •  8 years ago

As what I have promise on my last post(Here) featured by @jacor , here are my latest horror stories:

  • The Cursed Bed
  • The Backseat Passenger

These are fictional stories. I got the inspiration in writing these on a movie entitled "Segunda Mano" (Second-hand).

It is a 2011 Filipino supernatural horror film and an official entry of Metro Manila Film Festival. I will not go more into details of the movie because it will spoil the stories I wrote.
Let's start!

THE CURSED BED

Finally able to own his place for the first time, Ricky was very excited to fill his bachelor's pad with furniture and appliances. The problem was he had splurged on the home cinema system that he had no money on his budget for a new bed. Wisely, he decided to check out ads to second-hand furniture. Fortunately (or unfortunately) he discovered a garage sale within his neighborhood and one of the items they were selling was a bed.

The bed was in mint condition, except for a hole about the size of a 25 centavo coin in the upper right corner. Ricky decided to get it and congratulating himself for such a good buy. This was until he tried to sleep on it.

While Ricky was lying on the bed and was about to drift to sleep he noticed some kind of mist hovering above him. He also noticed that the bed was colder than the rest of the room. But Ricky ignored these happenings and grabbed the chance to catch some sleep.

The second night he lay on his bed, the mist was there again only bigger. It almost covered the whole bed. Ricky noticed that the temperature dropped even lower. Still Ricky did not think something unnatural was heppening and was able to sleep soundly. At around four in the morning he was awakened by a loud bang, as if a firecracker had exploded right beside him. The smell of gun powder filled the whole room. Ricky simply thought that one of his neighbors was playing a trick on him and thrown a firecracker near his room. He went back to sleep.

On the thrid night things got even weirder. This time the mist had grown into a form of a full size human being. The temperature was now so cold that it had become almost unbearable. Not a believer in ghost and the paranormal, Ricky rationalized things, shut his eyes and tried to sleep. After a few seconds, he heard another loud blast similar to the one the night before. Only this time it was followed by another blast. When he opened his eyes he saw that the mist has turned into a figure of a woman. At this point Ricky rolled out of bed and ran to the living room and stayed there till sunrise. He vowed to get rid of the bed first thing in the morning.

Ricky went back to the house where he had bought the bed to return it. He asked the guy about the history of the bed. Hesitantly, the guy told him the truth. The bed was formerly owned by his parents. His mother had a brain cancer and was terminally ill. One night as his father watched his mom suffer from an excruciating headache, he shot her in the head to ease her suffering then shot himself.

I guess the moral of the story is, beware of buying second hand items. You could be getting more than you paid for.

THE BACKSEAT PASSENGER

One night Jackie was driving late from work on her way home when she noticed a car following her. Calmly, she increased the speed and tried to outrun the car behind her. But the car was persistent. And the driver was even blinking his headlights and honking his horn.

From her rearview mirror, Jackie could see that the car was a black old model box-type sedan. Though she couldn't see the face of the driver, she could tell that it was a man who was quite tall and burly.

The chased ensued until Jackie reached her home. Immediately, she went inside the house, locked the door and watched through her window the next move that the driver of the car would do.

The driver got out of his car and approached her vehicle as if checking something in the backseat. Then slowly, he started walking towards Jackie's house. Jackie's heart beat faster as the man inched towards her door. When the man was about to knock, Jackie shouted.

"What do you want? Don't come near or I'll call the police," she said in a loud yet quivering voice.

"Miss, calm down I was just trying to help," the man replied. Without opening the door, Jackie shouted back. "What do you mean," she said.

"Earlier when I was trailing you, I saw someone from the backseat with a knife about to stab you. That's why I was blinking my lights and honking my horns," the guy explained.

"I don't believe you! That's impossible. I was all alone in my car," Jackie retorted.

"It's true miss, and if you come out and go with me to your car, I can prove it," the man siad.

Because the guy seemed sincere, Jackie agreed and went with the man to check out her car. The guy asked Jackie to open the backseat door. To Jackie's horror, in the backseat there was a big kitchen knife.

Tales From The Crypt :)

Goosebumps :)

I knew it when I wrote this one, It will give you that feeling. :)

My stepson loves that series, he is always reading them... It sounds a little similar

Are you afraid of the Dark?

Not really.

I think he meant the story sounds like an old show called "Are you afraid of the dark?"... It was on a while back and was similar to Goosebumps and Tales from the Crypt :)

Oh yes. I was the third post on here behind tales from the crypt and goosebumps, so it was only fitting as I was a fan of all three growing up

I lived in Asia for 5 years doing my uni and have to say, Asian horror movies are class. Such a different approach to scaring people. Way more interesting than western horror films.
To put it another way, Asian horror movies have many layers / textures to them unlike western horror films which follow a very rigid formula.

I highly recommend The Shutter, a Thai horror that just makes remember what spooked really means. :)

Is it more subtle? Like a horrific wink to the audience lol

I dont think that way. Eastern gorror movies were based on our beliefs while on Western horror movies were merely based on their experiences.

Nice story, keep up ur great writing @jacor
