Happy Sunday funday folks, what a nice day! We're over the hump of sweaty season here in Thailand and the temperature is great! Cool breeze, scattered clouds and a light shower once a day. Everything feels vibrant as the intensity of summer starts to cool off. Talking about refreshing, today I have a brand new energy for blogging!
Kai and I looking super sweaty and happy
So the last few posts I've been in my feelings a bit, expressing some of the challenges I've faced finding my niche here on Steemit. I've experimented with sharing stories about my past, dabbled with some taboo porn conversations and posted a bunch of nsfw stuff. However as I said the other day, my best performing posts have actually been about my normal daily life and becoming a Dad.
Today I feel like I'm having a breakthrough after reading this great piece by @luzcypher: The Most Valuable Steemit Post Begins In Your Head. I resteemed it immediately and I highly recommend everyone take a look, it's very well written and helped me reassess why I'm here. Again big thanks to @alexpmorris, what a legendary dude you should check him out too. He's the one who sent me the article, he also knows a lot about trading and has helped me learn more about analyzing price charts.
The Most Valuable Steemit Post Begins In Your Head by @luzcypher
So check them out, I just reached out to thank the author and mentioned I want to link to his post today. I ended up reading through it again and gleaned even more wisdom from his writing. I feel this may be one of the most helpful and insightful articles I've read on Steemit so far. In my comment I wrote:
What I came away with that really helps me is "Successful blogs are not about you the writer, they are about the reader and how reading your post can help them or at least entertain them." THIS IS GOLD!
It's a great reality check for me as all I've ever blogged about is me. Me, me and me with the girls, and me. This may have been "entertaining" enough back in the day but now it's funny looking back and realizing how self absorbed I used to be. My life has changed so much now and I have a totally different outlook on the world. That's why I constantly feel inspired to offer more and connect on a deeper level. Yet all I've actually been doing is exactly same thing I've always done, talk about myself. (Oh hey I'm doing it again)
So now I'm realizing that to improve my blogging and writing skills, I really want to focus on what value I can offer others. How can I benefit more people with more than some basic entertainment? Something clicked while I was reading that article, the social aspect of this whole "experiment" was missing for me. I'd been so busy attempting to succeed with my own blogs that I completely stopped reading other peoples content. There are literally so many talented authors here sharing about all kinds of interesting topics. Perhaps I lost sight of them while I was fumbling with myself in those dark nsfw places, what an idiot LOL!
Our differences makes this weird world interesting!
Talking to other bloggers is something I never really did before Steemit. I was out there blogging away as I've always done for years. Perhaps that's why I evolved from writing to speaking? Writing about myself was long and boring (oh yeah I'm still doing it) so I moved on to talking to the camera instead. On YouTube there's a huge community and you get tons of engagement, though quite clearly many are just watching you and would never do their own videos. They're there to be entertained and perhaps that was just feeding my ego monster even more.
It's different here, it's like we're all in this together.
One of the greatest differences between Steemit and traditional blogging is that we're in community together as opposed to being the lone wolf of wordpress. I feel to succeed here, as in life, we need each other. Connecting and finding ways to help and serve/entertain each other as best we can. While the same applies with traditional blogging, it sometimes feels very zoo like as you are exposed to the whole internet and have no idea if you will ever bump into anyone until they throw you a comment.
Bob always coming with the realness, bless up!
Here we're already on the steem ship together, we may as well get to know our neighbors. Go see who's around and realize we're all doing our best to prospect here. Everyone is building a home, or hotel with rooms to rent as he said in his awesome analogy. When I ask myself why I'm even blogging on Steemit? My first answer would be simply to share my life and earn some money along the way. However now that I can look back and assess my life more honestly than I used to, I do think about how my experiences may empower others. If only I'd focus on that, I feel my writing could feel more fulfilling and I like that idea.
Since we're all invested in the success of this "social experiment" it feels right to help each other out as much as we can. You know, I mentioned the other day that the ASWD group I've been helping with has a bunch of new announcements coming out soon, I dunno why I never thought to talk about them before. I've also been working on my own side project that I'd like to see used as a networking tool for other like-minded Steemians. More on that soon. So there's tons of things all of us could blog about that may enrich others lives and I feel Steemit is the perfect place to do that.
I'm here on Steemit to connect. When I first came here I really enjoyed reading what people who had found there way here had to say. All the anarchists and libertarians, the free minded unschoolers, digital nomads and all the crypto-traders. Then at some point I thought, right it's time to knuckle down and produce my own content and got swept up in the whole race to make dat moneeeey!
Content creation is only half the experience though, I've neglected the social side that is equally important for our growth. It's not all about gaining followers and upvotes, I'd like to think it's more about building genuine friendships. Real interactions with real people, who just like you and I and want to be free to share themselves with the world!
So thanks for bringing me back on track guys, I don't know how I'm going to continue telling my story telling in a way that benefits others, I'm just going to do my best! Thanks for reading if you got down this far, it's a pleasure being here with you all and learning from each other.
Wholeness.
