Chapter 8: Becoming a Speed Writer
Here is where the rubber meets the road. This is where we separate the pros from the amateurs. If you really want to become an ebook author, this is the way to get it done, before you change your mind.

There is really only one thing required, Concentration! The stronger your concentration, the easier it will be to work quickly. You have prepared yourself by setting aside time and space and removing distractions, now it's time to get it done.
The Speed Writing Method focuses on three steps
•Structure
•Creation
•Fine-tuning
This looks positively easy, doesn't it? Well, it is simple, but you must keep it mind. If this process is not followed, in this precise order, your one irreplaceable commodity, time, will be wasted, and before you know it your week will be over and you will have a few sentences of perfectly edited text, but no book.
By setting up your structure in advance, then doing all of your writing before proceeding to the editing phase, resisting the urge to combine them or engage in them out of order, you can keep your process moving forward and achieve your goal.
Speed Writing Techniques
To help you stay efficient, and maximize productivity, it can help to work in short, focused bursts, of work, with short breaks in between. One way to measure this is with a “pomodoro” or tomato timer. This is a technique invented by an efficiency expert.
The method calls for 25 minutes of work, then five minutes of break time. In addition to downloading a timer for this system ( google it, there are several) it helps to set a goal for each session. If you want to write 2000 words in a day, for example, that equals 500 words in each pomodoro session, for two hours.
Start your writing at the appointed time, whether you feel “inspired” or not. Remember, finishing is what makes authors. Not talent. You can always edit for good content, but you must create the content first.
Make yourself keep writing until each session is up. Even if you have reached your goal, keep going. The faster you finish the manuscript, the more time you will have for editing and polishing your formatting.
Make notes where you require more information, or you are unsure of your writing. Rather than stop and adjust your outline, or edit your text, keep moving, by making a note in your text to come back to it later, you will save time and stay on track.
Time for Fine Tuning
Once you have completed writing everything that is in your outline, it is time for editing. Start with a spell check. You may be surprised, since your word processor probably points these out as you go, with how few mistakes you made
Use a grammar checker as well to run through the document, then read through, correcting mistakes as you go. By the time you have worked through the manuscript these three times, you will have corrected it well enough to start a real edit.
Read the Book for Flow
This time, read through with an eye out for structural issues, or phrases that do not sound the way you want them to. Once this is done you are ready to share it with your first reader. Choose wisely!

More great advice @markmorrisjr ... This discipline is always my downfall. Thirty minutes lost on perfecting a sentence, an entire day lost on three paragraphs. And then, the original structure has vanished and I wander for days in one single direction........ directly towards the "Delete" key.

Those perfect sentences that great writers produce, generally come in fits of inspiration, or in editing. But, rarely just brooding over a perfectly adequate sentence they are trying to replace in the middle of writing.
