Unexpectedly computer shopping. Blue screen of death. I hate that.

The Blue Screen of Death.

Crap, I gotta buy a new computer.

I like computer shopping, but not when things are financially tight.

Currently things are financially tight.

So ugh.

I try and post as often as I can.

As I posted yesterday, I am behind in getting my next book out.

Luckily I can work on it on my Lenovo laptop, that I am typing this post on. But I gotta admit, it's much easier to work when looking at a27 inch moniter.

My main concern is the over 1 TB of pictures that I had on the computer, that are backed up in the cloud.

I am not sure how long it will take to get 1 TB back from the cloud.

Shivers...

Have you tried troubleshooting? Most of what I've seen about that particular stop code has to do with either waking from sleep or virtual machines, and ideally both of those should still let you boot to Windows. From there, you should be able to see if you can't tweak settings to fix the problem; Tom's Hardware has a guide, and they're usually pretty helpful (http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-3128580/fix-windows-hal-initialization-failed-error.html). Either way, even if you can't get the system back up and running, you should still be able to get files restored if you crack open the system and attach the drive to an external enclosure, assuming you didn't use encryption on the drive. Assuming that this is a desktop, it should be easy enough to remove a panel and get access to the guts of the machine. If you have a large enough thumb drive, you can probably boot from a portable Linux install (https://tutorials.ubuntu.com/tutorial/tutorial-create-a-usb-stick-on-windows) using your Lenovo laptop. This would let you copy files to another drive so they don't have to download from the cloud again.

Thanks for the tip. I'll look into it.

its really a very painful news........please don't be hopeless...........try to repair and start your loving work........all the best

I've gone through similar situations, just hang in there and be very VERY patient

It's very bad to see when we open our computer and this kind of problem appreared. I also hate it but thanks for sharing your experience with us.

If the error you had was HAL initialization, the same as in this picture, then with a little hand holding you should be able to get things sorted. If you pulled that image off of google and your error is actually something else then it might be a little more complicated.

One I pulled off Google because that computer is stuck in repair mode.

It wont turn on.

Aww man. I hope you can recover and move forward. You are in my prayers!!

I would love to do a post advertising your books but chrome has stopped working for my Steemit acct. I select images. All after an airplane ride. :(. Hmmm.

Thank you. I am currently adapting by working on my laptop with a huge external hard drive.

Interesting about Chrome. Have you tried another browser?

No. Not too tech savvy. I will try that. Thank you. :)

I highly appreciate with you.
This is a awesome writing..

I can second the comment that a BSOD isn't necessarily the end of your computer. My freshly built computer had one recently - it was simply complaining about the printer driver! Updated the driver and it's happy as a clam again.

In another line of thought, my husband regularly picks up computers at the dump - they usually have very little wrong with them. He cleans them up and either we use them, or we give them away to people less fortunate than ourselves. Some of these were top-of-the-line laptops, simply clogged up by malware, etc.

It won't even come on. I can't get it to come out of repair mode. So that's dead. And before it died parts of the secondary drive were failing, so the more I ran it the more I damaged the drive.

Checking my backup in the cloud, I did back-up everything I needed. So that part's good.

I am currently adapting with my laptop and an external harddrive.

Darn. That's not good.
Something I've done in the past that really saved me when a Windows install/drive failed was to create a dual-boot machine (Windows and Ubuntu/Linux) - it's easier than it sounds. That gives you another access point to your save files. Ideally, you want to save your files onto a different drive than where your operating system is install - especially when you're dealing with Windows.

Anyway, I hope you get everything you needed. I seem to have lost a nice picture I took last year - and I suspect it was on the laptop that died as I can't account for it anywhere else. (Don't know why it came off the camera, to be honest, as I don't normally delete them from there...)
