Chapter 29

Darius was making plans to try to get ahead of the game.

Red was trying to concentrate and getting frustrated to the point of insanity and she was beginning to lose her temper.

“He’s going to have control of a fucking killing machine and we can’t do a fucking thing about it!” Red stomped through the room like a teenager that’s been told ‘no’.

Paul was shocked at her display of petulance and though he could understand her frustration, he didn’t like the scene she was building.

He stepped back, out of her way and as she stomped past him, she paused, looked at him and her shoulders slumped and she sort of crumpled.

Her head hung down and he did think for a moment that she was crying. He almost went to comfort her but a warning look from Erzsébet stopped him.

Red sighed, it was a deep and resigned expulsion of breath and her shoulders heaved with it.

She continued to look at her feet and her mouth twitched to one side as though she was biting her cheek.

Her jaw moved rapidly to confirm that she was nibbling at the inside of her mouth and then her head snapped up, her shoulders went back and the light returned to her eyes and Paul was amazed at the transformation.

“There, you see, you just have to let her work it out for herself.” Erzsébet said to Paul. She’s tiresome at times but she usually comes around. It’s whether she works it out before I feel like killing her myself that’s the worry.”

Red heard her and again, to Paul’s amazement, the gesture of a middle finger, flipped in Erzsébet’s direction was a complete surprise.

“OK, Anton, I suppose you remember the family that lives near here... sorry, lived near here. They used to get invited to those lavish parties?”

Anton was dumbfounded for the moment, he hadn’t expected such a question and he glanced at Erzsébet for help but she shrugged her shoulders at him.

“Never mind. I remember the three girls, they were sisters but they weren’t the couple’s children. I think they may have been Selene and her sisters. They used to go to that hall, the one close to where Richard Stainsby went feral just before he was captured and skinned by Darius a few years ago.”

The memory dawned on Anton and he grinned. “Yes. Annesley Hall. There were quite a few parties held there, I do remember. I also remember a few drunken duelling sessions there too. Good lord! I could have been killed there more times than I like to think about. It’s a good thing Byron didn’t use silver in his shot! It’s also very fortunate for him that I could aim perfectly well after consuming as much alcohol as we did back then. Byron drank from a skull, you know. ”

Red rolled her eyes to the ceiling and smiled. “Do you know how to get there?”

“Of course I do.”

“Let’s go then.”

Paul was still a little bemused and the phrase ‘mood swing’ stuck in his head as he went to his car. Red jumped in the front passenger seat and Anton got in the back and he was startled.

“Start the car, we’re going on a road trip.” Red told him.

“How do you know where to go?” Paul asked once they were on their way.

Red looked forward and shrugged her shoulders.

Anton answered. “She doesn’t know so she can’t tell you. The Prophesised One runs on instinct for a lot of her time and that can be very stressful on her, which would explain the temper tantrums.”

Red sighed again and Anton laughed.

Paul didn’t feel like joining in his laughter, he was not sure what the hell was going to happen and could only be anxious in the face of it.

Anton pointed to the church up on the highest point and then he pointed to the opposite side of the road and told Paul to turn right at the traffic island and make his way into the industrial estate.

Paul did as he was told and watched in his rear-view mirror as a stream of cars followed him. ‘This is fucking surreal’ he thought.

The cars were left in various car parks belonging to a multitude of factories and businesses and then he watched aghast as yet more people emerged from the trees that surrounded the industrial estate.

When the car parks were full of people, Anton held up his hands for quiet.

“Clan Leaders, I thank you for bringing your Wolves here. Whether you are here to fight for us or against us, I think that we have a bigger foe to worry about than we had ever thought. The Wolf’s Eye amulet has been found and it has been used to bring us together but until we reach the place and time of the battle we are still kin and I address you as my kin.”

Red heard her and again, to Paul’s amazement, the gesture of a middle finger, flipped in Erzsébet’s direction was a complete surprise.

Haha, i like that you have sense of humour :)) :D. Glad to see that :)

a good chapter and its reading for me is a great way to get away from the day's hassles and plunge into another world :)
Judging by what is happening, interesting and brutal events await us
Thank you and have a good day

This chapter is very calm and collected. After a series of horror scenes it gave a peaceful respite.

👍👍👍👍👍

It's really cool and amazing story.
I really enjoy the reading of this story.
Your writing style is very captivating.
Keep writing and inspiring us.

Paul didn’t feel like joining in his laughter, he was not sure what the hell was going to happen and could only be anxious in the face of it.

I feel for Paul, right now, I feel like Paul.

I think that we have a bigger foe to worry about than we had ever thought.

And I foolishly thought Darius was The, thats with a capital T, bad guy. I remember the scene with Selene and her mother and sisters, So Selene's problem is like the Real Problem? Not Darius?
It's getting real tight again on the narrative, and the secrets to be unfurled.
