A Service Smile

in writing •  6 years ago  (edited)

Put putty on the cracks
my facade is breaking.
Smooth out the ridges,
stretch back the lips,
in grimace or smile--
just make it stick.

Layer it on if you must,
the putty, the paint--
put it all in place,
the perfect mask,
that service smile--
vague but pleasant.

Just make it quick,
my facade is crumbling fast
bit by bit.
