This is the kind of question you should ask yourself either before starting to work or after you made a little bit of progress. For example, as a writer on Steemit or Medium, you should often ask yourself if you'd read your articles if they would be written by another person.
If the answer is no, then it's pretty obvious that the quality of what you create is not that good. If you wouldn't be interested in what your content has to say, or if you wouldn't buy your own product because you can't think of any way to use it, then you have a big problem.
I think that's something a lot more people should think about, because a lot of them have the wrong mentality when starting to create something. They expect others to consume their content simply because it's out there, and when that doesn't happen, the authors get either mad or disappointed.
But the truth is that consumers want something good. You wouldn't spend 2 hours watching a bad movie, so why should they spend even a few minutes reading a bad article, watching a bad video or consuming anything bad?
If you can't come up with something good for your audience, then people will start ignoring you. They will even forget you at some point, and they'll focus on creators who can come up with something better for them.
Look at those around you and try to figure out what they do better than you. How are some people writing better articles? How are some people creating amazing videos? How are others drawing amazing things?
See if you can understand how they do it, and if you can't, well, you can just ask them. In most cases, they will tell you how they got to that level. Some of them spent a lot of time practicing to get that good, while others got there using the knowledge they acquired from tutorials, mentors and courses.
Your goal should be pleasing your audience, the people who follow and expect content from you. How you do it, and how much time it will take, that's something you have to think about. That's how things are, and there's nothing you can do to change it.
