My Steemit Experience

STEEM.jpg

After I posted the final chapter of the Night Gods, I started thinking about it and realized it probably sounded a lot like sour grapes- and it's not! It's just my bizarre, sardonic sense of humor- me laughing at myself (I'll be laughing when they haul me to the nursing home). I'm not going anywhere, I'll still be posting everyday- just different stuff.

Let me try to simplify a bit... When you buy a book, you expect to read a book. When you log on to a social media site, you don't expect to read a book- it's as simple as that. Steemit is simply the wrong venue for that sort of writing. However, that being said, it is a splendid platform for shorter things, for example, photography, or short articles- not exactly my forte lol. I don't seem to be able to write anything in less than 2 posts- so bear with me. I had the same problem in college, every time the professor assigned a paper, they would stop me on the way out of class and asy: "Five pages, Quitliano- not War and Peace!

So, by way of advice as to success on Steemit- keep it brief... people have the attention span of a gnat (I think I said that in my story) AND watch for The Night Gods when the book is done!

I think @richq11 steemit is still a great place for the night gods I also dont think people simply lost interest I think alot as to do with bots and automation, I have noticed strangely other accounts who suddenly dropped alot on earnings and vise versa its all weird goings on but at the end of the day those with alot of power will always earn alot. I think perhaps what you could do is a bare bones chapter almost like a getting the taste of something and in the actual book write all the descriptive details.

3 parts is always an interesting thang...

I was worried about you for a while there @richq11. You sounded really down in the dumps. Looks like you're having some major issues in your life at the moment but I'm glad to see you are still going to be in the thick of things. Look forward to more posts from you. :-)

I'm just scared... I'm NOT going to the nursing home... If I do they'll kill my dog!

I've got my fingers crossed that that won't happen. Hang in there.

I'm a writer and I write a lot - I heard the same thing you did from my professors! What helps me is outlining and getting it sorted first before I plunge in.

I'm not saying I do it! I'm just saying it does help if you can get the discipline going. But isn't it more fun to just write and write and write! Such a dilemma.

I would say that here 1500 words is pushing it unless you are doing "How To" posts. I'm guilty of losing interest after a couple of pages down. But serializing is a wonderful idea. I can see that being a really good way to gain readers - if you remember to link to the other posts and do it well.

So much to think about!

I would keep the chapters short (2 pages at most) I just stuck to telling the story without the descriptive stuff. It worked ok for the first 20 chapters but I guess people lost interest.

Hmm... If you have 20 chapters - that's a prequel for Amazon at least. Maybe try publishing there. It should not be hard to transfer over. Then you can get people to go get your book and come here to catch up on new developments.

If I can publish there - anyone can :)

The guy that did the artwork and I are turning it into a book already. I've begun the rewrite on The Night Gods (part 1). The problem with this format is that it is limited si now I can expand it out to include things like descriptions of people, weather, surroundings etc.

Simplify and get the content out there! I say this with reams unpublished of my own :) Just keep at it - your audience is here.

Looking forward for your new posts! :)

Post whatever makes YOU happy.

I don't think it applies to everyone here. I DO like to read long posts which cover the subject of my interest thoroughly. And I ain't alone here. There are several people who love to write long posts and still get many readers. Many get more followers than you too.

IMHO the key is to get the followers who are actually interested in your writing and not the ones who have a short attention span for your kind of posts. I don't look forward to read as many small posts as I can. I ain't here to win some reading race or earn a hell lot of Steem by reading and leaving my comments there for people to give me upvotes. But to each his own. (Won't write too long or I won't get your attention to this 😉)

Yeah, anything too long and they just leave! I learned it the hard way when I posted a long, comprehensive history article. Nobody voted.
