OCR: Stands for Optical Character Recognition, an extraordinarily powerful technology that can precisely identify type-written words that it cannot recognize.

Office Automation: Water coolers, coffee machines, vending machines, microwaves, etc.

Open Source: Beware of Geeks bearing gifts.

or ….Open Source: A scheme that encourages software engineers to give away their program code for no reward other than the certain knowledge that they have no obligation to maintain it.

Optimizer: The piece of software that gets data from a database when a program asks for it.

Here’s the theory: A database can know more about where it stores its data that any programmer ever could. So a database will be able to work out the best and fastest way of getting that data. So the best approach is to write an optimizer program that gets the data rather than leaving it to the programmer.

Here’s the flaw: Writing an  optimizer requires a programmer
