The Boy Who Loved To Sing (Part 10)

"So, who's the kid?" Sean asked.

“Um, you’re going to think I’m nuts,” I replied to Sean. “I don’t know who he is he was dumped on me while I was sitting on a bench on the hospital grounds by a woman. She said she was just going to the bathroom. They were living in a tent in an alley a few blocks from the hospital. He showed me.”

“WHAT? That’s crazy. And you bought him here with you? Jeesh, that is wild. Are you going to turn him over to the authorities?”

“I’m torn over this. He’s a little sweetheart and I don’t want him to go to an orphanage or foster home or wherever they stick them.”

“Well, we’re here for my mom I’ll figure something out but not right now. Can you hang out here for a little while with him? I just want to go spend a little time with my mom I won’t be long.”

“Yeah, no problem I’m staying all weekend so take your time.”

“I’m gonna wash up and get ready.”

“Ok, I guess me and the little guy will go eat downstairs.”

“You have to help him read the menu.” I walked into the bathroom. I was exhausted. I decided to soak in the tub for a bit.

I walked into my mom’s hospital room and she was sitting up peacefully in her bed watching TV with Horacio holding her hand. She looked up, “Hi honey.” “Hi mom. You look rested.”

A doctor walked in. “Hello you must be our dear patient's’ daughter. I’m Dr. Johnson. Good I’m glad the whole family is here. Mrs. Saari your bloodwork is looking good. You look a lot better, too. You should be all set to start your chemotherapy Monday.”

“That’s good news!” I said.

“Try to eat as well as you can today. You may have much of an appetite on Monday after the treatment. I have to finish my rounds. Have a nice day everyone.” Dr. Johnson turned around and walked out.

“Sean is here. Remember the guy I told you about, Mom? That kept calling me?”

“The Irish man?”

“Yup. I know, it sounds weird but I finally answered my phone and he wanted to see me to talk to me right away. And flew here! I know, crazy, right?”

“And?”

“He’s actually really nice. He’s watching Isaiah right now while I’m here.”

“Well, I can’t wait to see how this pans out,” said Mom.

“Me neither,” I responded and we both chuckled.

I got back to the hotel room and when I opened the door Sean and Isaiah were both sitting there singing…

Loves Jesus and America too
She's a good girl, crazy 'bout Elvis
Loves horses and her boyfriend too

It's a long day, living in Reseda
There's a freeway running through the yard
And I'm a bad boy 'cause I don't even miss her
I'm a bad boy, for breaking her heart

And I'm free - free falling
Yeah I'm free - free falling

All the vampires walking through the valley
Move west down Ventura boulevard
And all the bad boys are standing in the shadows
And the good girls are home with broken hearts

And I'm free - free falling
Yeah I'm free - free falling

I was just kind of standing there stunned when they looked up and saw me and I started laughing, “What are you guys doing?”
Sean replied, “Did you know this kid loves to sing?”
