Shipwreck Challenge R1: Results, Statistics & Advice

in writing •  7 years ago  (edited)

Hello everyone,

I had a delightful time preparing a table with the scores from Round 1. Then I spent time on preparing few additional stats and finally I wrapped up the post with *an advice on how you could improve your result for the prompt given at Round 2* and possibly increase your personal payout if you are still withing the 7 days time frame.

Round 1 Scores

Here's the current score for Round 1.

R1 - mod 2.png

Some of the guys didn't manage to submit stories for the first Round, however it doesn't mean that they are disqualified from participating in Round 2.

NB! If we see equal score between two or more participants after the end of Round 3, we'll then pull out the decimals in a successful attempt to determine the final results.

Round 1 Stats

Here are few curious stats I managed to compile as an addition. They are not related with the score, but give a nice overview on what the individual post's number of votes and current payout.

Once again:

NB! Upvotes and payout had ZERO bearing on judges' scores

Submissions by number of votes

@morodiene is leading here and by the time I was counting there were 312 upvotes for all the 14 entries submitted.

Submissions by current payout

@jadegreene is dominating the table and with current payout of 142.88 is responsible for more than the half of the payout generated by all participants.

Total amount of current payout

283.99

This is enough to provide few people with tickets for a 7-night Mediterranean Cruise from Civitavecchia for example :D

Advice

I'll finish this post with some advice on how to improve your score and how to increase your payout. I came up with the idea for the latter earlier today. You've put efforts and the story might still not get the reward it deserves (we know it happens here). The simple advice I'm about to share my increase your chances to get an additional reward.

How to improve your score for Round 2?

As some of you might have expected it, I'll share a brief information about the queue. In a nutshell, it's s an editing service offered for free on @thewritersblock. Read more on how to join The Writer's Block at the end of the post.

How to increase your current payout?

Submit your post for @sndbox-alpha's service.

This advice is applicable only for participants with current payout less than $3 or around $3 and not older than 6.5 days. A lot of the submissions in Round 1 are still younger than 6.5, so you could take an advantage if you wish. As for the rest, you can try the opportunity for Round 1.

@sndbox-alpha is currently accepting any Art & Music posts and all you need to do is submit your posts as a comment under their relevant post. This is how you jump into their pool and qualify for your post being reviewed. If they like it, you will receive a powerful upvote.

Hii, it's really nice how dedicated you are to the challenge. You put a lot of work into it (: That's some very good advice and interesting statistics.

I wanted to let you know that I did write the story for round 1 /.\ but I forgot to put the link in the original post, until yesterday. I know it's my fault you didn't see it, but here's the link anyways if you want to read it: https://steemit.com/writing/@alemars16/when-the-darkness-calls-shipwreck-creative-writing-challenge :)

Hey @alemars16, I tend to regularly check if you guys have published it and forgot putting the link under the appropriate post. You've passed all requirements and you should be still eligible to get your score for Round 1. I'll give you an update by the end of today.

Ok, no worries - you've been added and will get points for Round 1

That's really great, thank you so much :)

Great post, and great stats here. I like how you're showing the results. Charts! Tables! :)

Nice work by everyone that submitted!

Ow, I really like those insights you've added, to see how payout and jury score work. Great job! Already stressing out over my next submission!

Thank for putting all of that together! Love the transparency of it!

And a shoutout to @nobyeni for the highest score! You deserved it! Great story!

Actually two girls have the highest score : )

Thanks for all the stats! It's nice to see how everything breaks down. Lots of very talented people in the contest!

Agree @morodiene! Having rounds and points for each round is lifting the overall level of our challenge.

Very good about the statistics, and we will continue to improve ;)

Between taking on an extra commitment here in the real life and relapsing health issues, I'm going to have to fall by the wayside here. With sincere regret I have to withdraw from the contest. Simply put, I am unable to write anything right now.

This is a great contest. I am loving the trend lately of more complex and longer lasting competitions. This one is a model to follow. Awesome idea and excellent execution on @steemfluencer's part.

And the stories coming from here are some of the best I've seen on steemit for a long time. I'm looking forward to reading more as the contest goes on. I'll still be a part of it, that way. Good luck to all the writers!

I like the visual representation for all the data. Really freakin' cool and I appreciate the time and effort you put into it. :D

Hi @steemfluencer, I did attempt to submit a story for round one. I must have missed a step though. Here's the link, any idea where I went wrong?

I know the deadline for round 2 is tomorrow, so any advice on how to submit my entry properly would be greatly appreciated! All the best!

Edit - I see now that I was supposed to submit it as a comment in the original post, so much for reading comprehension! Noted for round 2!
