Please Help! - I NEED A BLOGGING AND NOTES APP to replace Gmail - on Mac or WinsteemCreated with Sketch.

Yesterday was quite a day. I was opening windows right and left in Chrome, one after another.
Then it happened. Again.

Gmail has a horrible bug, that once it's out of memory, it just starts destroying Drafts files.
Old, saved notes, I keep in Gmail.
Gone.

I would hit the Compose button, and up comes a bad Draft window. Corrupted layout. OOPS!
Start closing browser windows, refresh Gmail, mostly it goes away immediately.
Sometimes I reboot to be sure...

I've been living with this bug for several months now, and figured they would find and fix it quickly.
NEVER DID.

And if this bug is active, then IF you OPEN a saved DRAFT file, it's gone! Contents WIPED!
Data corruption, from Google?

I've been doing this for over 10 years, and until recently, it was remarkably useful and reliable!
IN FACT, Steve Jobs recommended such, in an interview I read 20 years ago, and I've been using email drafts as my personal DB since that time.

Here's the feature list:

a) Electronically searchable for title and contents
b) Dated entries
c) Auto-saved (I thought, sheesh!) NO SAVE BUTTON
d) Cloud based, never have to worry about backing up (I thought...)
e) Reliable - for over 10 years, I thought I had this issue for my life solved.
f) Browse existing notes titles, via date, title search, etc

I would tell anyone that listened, take notes, and use Gmail!
People just like me, can't remember their name half the time, but if I write it down, it's mine forever.

Obviously, I need to export my data OFF of gmail and try something else, but what?

(Don't get me started, my first attempt at exporting 10+ years of gmail off google.com, has not worked so far, as they promise to email me when the process has completed, and my archive files are ready, and 24 hours later, no email..

HELP!
What to do?
I'm stuck. Don't know what app to use (local, with cloud backups I think).
Don't know how to get Google to give me my data either, or so it seems.

I know much above, sounds like a file system, but Gmail is such a great search and browsing experience, once I'm in my Drafts folder; it's really hard to give it up.

Suggestions right now, would be helpful.
Thanks so much ;-)

After this happened about 10 times I had to update my gb memory on my gmail account from 15 to 100 because just use it to much!

Good luck Yogi and sorry you lost your stuff!

Why did cheeta downvote your comment?

  • That's weird..

How do you update memory for gmail?

Because I was sharing articles with my thoughts on them and they "didnt like how I was doing it" so I get black listed..... Its ridiculous and steemit chat is filled with rude children so I cant get it fixed. Very disappointed in STEEMIT's backend support.

It offers you when you hit max, so example. I have 16.28 GB (16%) of 100 GB used of my email memory. Scroll to the bottom of your inbox and you'll see the gigabyte count and a tab that says "manage" then upgrade, its like 5 bucks a month or something but worth it.

OK< so that's storage space (not memory).
Just want to be clear.

Cheeta could be hard to navigate; I always comment to them if they upvote my post, so they understand (I am original author, or I'm only quoting this article, etc).

Oh I am sorry, I misunderstood what you were asking Yogi, sorry to confuse you.

Yeah, I tried all of that, and the steemit.chat people just mock and patronize people and I am not dealing with that. I am very upset with their customer support.

For keeping track of tons of critical info which can be easily modified, gone through, etc., I haven't found a better solution than a good text editor (like Notepad++) combined with daily backups (Dropbox works just fine).

I love Notepad++.

I have a suspicion this may not be a bug, it may be by design. You said it happens when you run out of space. Bearing in mind drafts were not intended to be used the way you describe I could understand the system prioritising email data over draft data.

Good luck with it all.

Maybe some type of issue with your operating system. Sometimes It also happens with steemit drafts.

I use Evernote :D

I can recommend the Grammarly app... checks all the spelling and everything as well. https://app.grammarly.com

I recommend Wordpress. It works both online and offline. You can save your drafts or publish your notes privately -- if you need it just for your future reference.

Who the hell actually tries to save and write drafts on gmail? If you're crafting a very lengthy email and so on just write it up in word or wordpad then copy and paste the finished product into the email and send it off. There are times when I'm writing an extremely long post for example on reddit or even on Steem where I do that and just keep everything offline where nothing can go wrong easily.

The fuck are you people doing? Online is an absolutely terrible place to store anything long term.

windows live drive.

Never happened with me... But if it's true then a solution is must.... Great information sir

From your list of requirements, I'd have thought something like Evernote would do the trick.
