They thought it would never happen. Don't get me wrong they talked about it all the time, obsessed about it. It was a topic at every birthday party, funeral, summer picnic. The old told the young, in nursery rhymes & stories. Poems about it were recited, epic tales passed on from generation to generation. It even had its own holiday. People dressed up, traditional food associated with it was prepared & consumed. When the day finally arrived people were shocked many negated the reports of its happening. In disbelief they asked each other is it true? It can't be... are we ready? Some were revived by the news finally breaking through their shell of inertia & lethargy. Others, who only weeks before where the loudest supporters of it as mythological idea, now coward, moaned & cried cursing its very existence. Where in the past the idea of it mostly unified, it now became subject of strife & family disagreement. There were block parties & protests, riots & gatherings in its name. It soon became very clear to everyone, as they made room for it as factor in their lives, NOTHING would ever be the same.

very good, I want to read the second part ... What's next?

I like it, very creative piece of writing and quite absorbing for the limitation of 1111 characters.
