Being on steemit can be really frustrating especially if you are not willing to cheat and use bots to be seen. You write really good content that you worked hours at, sometimes researching for days an you get no interaction upvotes while a stolen meme of a naked cat gets hundreds of steem dollars. It is hard not to get discouraged and throw in the towel.
So why do I do it why I am I still here? Because I truly believe in this platforms unprecedented potential. Steemit, and other platforms running on similar models, have the potential to change the world in a major way, if we let it and if we get a handle on quality control.
in another post on this platform under the same name I discussed how I see the possible future of steemit if we can pry it from the greedy little hands of the spammers and scammers. The block chain like the early internet has the potential to bring the world together into a better and greater world community. It also has the potential to take power away from greedy planet killing corporations, politicians and individuals.
Right nw almost everything that is out there is controlled by people with a lot of money and power who ’s primary interest is to make more money and gain more power. The consumer is not the one dictation the narrative , the public is not the one dictating how things are run. For every product or solution that manages to get backing there are hundreds that might be better or more imaginative that will never see the light of day because they either don’t fit the agenda of the people in power or they create an actual solution to things and thus are not profitable.
Things have begun to be shaken up a bit with things like kickstarter but the blockchain is potentially more powerful then that. Imagine this for a second, you have a person who comes up with a cost efficient design to the best vacuum ever made. We all know that todays corporations engage in planned obsolescence. They do not want things to last they do not want real cures because they want to keep on making money. so let’s say our vacuum guy puts up a post explaining what he is building and what and who he needs to make the project work. He could post it on steemit get support from the collective, recruit the minds he needs to perfect the design from the collective and then in a series of posts about the progression of the project get the funds to bring the project to reality. After the project is completed the finished designs could be posted open source in the blockchain opening a whole new way of doing things. Large projects like moon and mars colonies could be planned and executed by a world collective all contributing what they can and all receiving the benefits of the results when those things are completed.
Biohackers could come out of the dingy basements and create real cures instead of the toxic solutions the Pharma industry is selling us. We would have medicine that looks for the cure instead of trying to keep patients hooked on symptom diminishing drugs, with so many side effects they are fucked if they do and fucked if they don’t take them. The research would be funded by us, the collective, to heal those in the collective that need it. Things could be built/made with the least amount of waste and best use or resources, we would not have to deal with the restrictions of vicinity because team member could be all over the world regardless of where they are in the world.
People could put out posts about things they wish existed and solutions to things they are seeking help with and the global community could take these things on. As I mentioned in my other post on the subject 43 years ago one of my mothers many suitors built a functioning prototype of a solar powered vehicle. It was obviously clumsy compared to today’s tech but functional and not a toy car either but a 4 seater. The thing was brilliant, it looked a bit like those cars in Logans run or other 1970’s sci-fi flicks . “So why aren’t we driving these now” you might ask it is simple because the Shell corporation bought it and everything associated with it and shelfed it. How many things like this have happened? how far could humanity be if corporations cold not meddle with progress anymore. With our blockchain access these possibilities are at our fingertips because banks can no longer meddle, because we can operate more freely here outside of the mainstream.
The same process can be used for media, art, theatre and movie. Tv series, albums and movies, theatre plays and planed art projects could be pitched by the artists in the chain and financed by the people who enjoy them and not bloated media giants and/or gallery/label owners who tell you what is cool or you should like. Gamers could get and make better and more imaginative games. The collective could finance their pitch and they could not only get the funds but also coding help from all over the world to make their project reality.
We could finance, support, design and create smaller and larger community projects. Anything from community gardens to help centres, food pantries, job banks, and libraries, from animal rescue to larger sanctuaries could get support and ideas from a larger community. Even projects that only serve as comic relief, political projects like buying 300 garden gnomes and setting them up as protest somewhere could be things collectively supported and financed. We could finance an build globally connected free schools for our kids and even adults, really the sky is the limit when it comes to ideas.
Steemit and other blockchains have so much more untapped power and are potentially just so much more than then just upvoting content and raking in money, if we allow them to be. Like with everything else on the planet right now we are at a cross road with Steemit do we do the right thing and create utopia or do we let greed and selfishness rule and destroy the vary ting that could sustain us. I am hoping that people will realise the possibilities and start using them. This is why I am still here, this is why I tell my ego to just listen to the violins and suck it up when hundreds of my posts go unnoticed. This platform might be ailing but it is not dead and it is up to us to network and get the ball rolling …
