This project for me was all about my relationship with food. As I bought the items in which I needed in order to make some soup and cornbread, I thought about how I make my living from food. As I was shopping at my grocery store which is also my place of employment. I bought some of the things that I needed on clearance, but there wasn't a price on these items; so I needed to get a price for the items from the grocery manager. The manager had given me the items for 25 cents each. This made me begin to appreciate the people that I work with and the ease in which I am able to obtain the food that I need for the winter season. My next thought was the contrast of the former line of thinking. I began thinking about the amount of time and preparation that it would take in order to feed myself thought the winter. I imagined having to work my land in order to grow, process, and then store the food and seeds for the winter months. I began thinking about my relationship with food in other ways, such as how I go through cycles of eating that range from being mindful about the way and things in which I chose to eat, to emotionally eating and not caring about what I am eating.
I made some cornbread and cabbage soup and harvested some mint in which I put up later for some special tea. I began thinking of how the experience reminded me of playing Skyrim, specifically cooking with the recipes in the game. Doing this assignment and preparing for and thinking about the winter makes me feel like my life in Alaska will be like a real-life Skyrim adventure. And this lead me to looking up Real-Life Skyrim recipes and wanting to assemble them all and create a Skyrim cookbook for myself. This is a scientific method and so I will continue to add and improve upon this as I come across new recipes. I would like to make and eat them all! Well, maybe not all of them.

Grilled Leeks*1
What you will need: A pot, a bowl, and a griddle pan.
Ingredients:
Leeks
Olive Oil
Salt & Pepper
1 Clove Garlic
Slice the leeks vertically in half and wash thoroughly in cool water. Pop the halved leeks in a large pot of water and bring to the boil. Cook for 4 minutes or until cooked about half way through, then drain and instantly submerge the leeks in a bowl of ice cold water to stop them from cooking any further.
Dry the leeks in some paper towels then season with a little olive oil, salt and pepper and garlic. Warm a griddle pan on a medium heat.
Lay a few leeks at a time, open side down on the pan. Try to keep them intact so they still have their shape. Turn them gently every few minutes to prevent from burning. Once cooked, lay on a plate or tray to serve.

Sweet Roll *2
Ingredients:
For the cake:
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup milk
1 egg
2 tsp. vanilla extract
2 tsp. baking powder
pinch of salt
2 tbs. cinnamon
1/4 cup butter, melted
For the filling:
1/4 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 Tbsp. cinnamon
1/2 cup chopped pecans
For the icing:
1/4 cup cream cheese, softened
2 tablespoons milk
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
Directions:
This recipe makes two sweet rolls. Depending on how many oven-safe measuring cups you have, you can either make one at a time or both at once. Preheat oven to 350. Mix dry cake ingredients together. Separately, mix wet cake ingredients together. Add wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly. Spray your oven-safe glass measuring cup with non-stick cooking spray. Add your batter to the measuring cup to the 1 cup or the 1 1/2 cup line, depending on how tall you want it. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes or until your can stick in a knife and it comes out clean. Remove measuring cup from the oven. Let the cake cool. Once cake is cool, remove it from the measuring cup carefully so it does not break. The cake is going to be upside down (so the wider part is at the bottom) and may be awkwardly rounded on the bottom side. To fix this, simply cut off the rounded bottom with a knife to make it level. Set the cake down with the wider leveled side on the bottom. Use a spoon or fork to carve a hole at the top of the cake, this is where you will put the filling. To make the filling mix together the butter, pecans, cinnamon and brown sugar. Stuff the mixture into the hole you created. For the icing, whisk together the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar and milk until smooth and thick. Gently pour the icing on top of the cake. Serve or have it all to yourself! Remember, in Skyrim, stealing a sweetroll is punishable by a night in jail.
Moon Sugar *3
1 cup vanilla, vanilla-cardamom, or lavender sugar (use standard white sugar only)
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1 Tbsp sumac (for the Secunda version only)
Vegetable oil (a flavorless oil like canola) or vegetable shortening
1-2 Tbsp powdered sugar
Oil or grease a jelly roll pan. Mix the flavored sugar and corn syrup in a microwave-safe bowl.
Cover tightly with plastic wrap and microwave for 3 minutes. Remove from microwave and stir. Cover again and microwave for another 2 minutes. Add the sumac at this point, if you're making the Secunda version.
WARNING: SUGAR WILL BE EXTREMELY HOT!!! Remove from microwave, remove plastic wrap, and pour mixture onto oiled/greased jelly roll pan.
Let cool until hard. Break into large chunks. Put the large chunks into a heavy-duty freezer bag, seal, and break them by tapping firmly with the side of a wooden spoon. Add powdered sugar to the bag and shake to coat pieces.
Store in an airtight container.
