Writing exercise. Day 3. Fired cop indicted in shooting.

Jim watched his son from the bleachers.

Greg was huge for his age. He easily towered over all of the other players on the field.

Football was a sport that everybody could enjoy and Jim definitely did, at least as long as he could watch his son smack those other players around.

He was a bit of a masochist after all.

That is secretly the main reason why he took his job as a police officer.

Interrogation was the best part.

Two weeks ago Jim had gone a bit farther than he intended while dealing with some riffraff.

A homeless man had spent the night in the drunk tank and then given Jim a parting gift of a brown pool of vomit on his right leather shoe.

Jim didn't mean to give that man such a harsh thrashing but you don't mess with another man's shoes. Not when that man is a cop.

The homeless man ended up in the hospital and Jim was let go from his job just two years before he was set for retirement.

Now he was relaxing and watching his son's game while still receiving severance pay from the city.

Greg was a real Dynamo.

Although he was only 8 years old he really showed all the other kids who was the heart of the team.

His son's team was called the Yellow Fish and they were beating the Red Laserbeaks quite soundly.

Suddenly the Laserbeaks coach put a new player on the field.

This boy was even bigger than Greg.

Within 15 minutes he had made Greg look like quite a fool on the field.

Jim wasn't about to put up with this. He pulled out his trusty revolver and shot the S.O.B. dead on his feet.

"That'll learn him good." he laughed.

Now he faces severe charges. "I swear" thought Jim. These people just don't understand football.

Ohhh, that's a shame. I was enjoying them (reading yours and writing mine). There are quite a lot of contests going on at the moment. Maybe it is worth re-trying after Christmas? January is always a dull month, and people want a new challenge too. Anyhoo, for what it is worth, I really enjoyed your story. Jim sounds like people I know (not as friends!), unfortunately! Here is my effort: https://steemit.com/writingexercise/@felt.buzz/nothing-to-lose-a-short-story-writingexercise-day-3-prompt-fired-cop-indicted-in-shooting

I love all the stories in this contest. They are unique. And all the same prompt.

Probably going to cut these short. Not getting any traction.
