My x51 R1 GTX 660 GPU died yesterday, so I started researching replacements. After looking at all my options (GTX 1080/1070/1060, RX 480), it looks like the GTX 1060 will be a near perfect match. According to the NVIDIA website, it looks like it should be perfect for the x51 R1 in terms of dimensions and power constraints. Also, its a 6 pin power connector so you don't need to buy any new cables or adapters. It actually is more power efficient than my 2-3 year old GTX 660. It is just a tidbit longer than my current GPU but I think it will fit. When the GTX 1060 is released I will more than likely buy it and install it. I will post here with the results.
My Dead GTX 660
- Height: 4.376"
- Length: 9.5"
- Width: 2-Slot
- Graphics Card Power (W): 140 W
- Recommended System Power (W): 450 W
- Supplementary Power Connectors: 6-Pin
GTX 1060
- Height: 4.378"
- Length: 9.823"
- Width: 2-Slot
- Graphics Card Power (W): 120 W
- Recommended System Power (W): 400 W

TLDR: So if your a x51 R1 owner with a 330W PSU this may be your choice.
