Here's a nice compilation to show how big the problem actually is for content creators.

so, where's the webtorrent host with crypto as payment alternative?

Webtorrent or something ASAP. SAFEnetwork is getting pretty close. Their Alpha 3 is actually probably good enough for this specific purpose with dedicated servers. Maybe SIA?

I'm not sure if maidsafe will be ready for video traffic anytime soon (as in some years).

webtorrent is ready for that, and torrent seednodes are super cheap if you just want to seed your content

Yea, you are probably right. How about SIA?

All I know is Storj would be a huge no. They just received 3MM from BnkToFTR and now are going for a second crowd fund with their new ETH token.....not a big deal, except storj labs doesn't even take their token as payment for their storage and everything is manually paid out to farmers.

storage is one thing, but streaming is a whole other level... I doubt this works with SIA or storj, ever.

The YouTube content creators should create a steemit account and simply mirror their posts (embedded youtube) to Steemit; this would be an additional income stream and would be beneficial for Steemit as they may inform their massive userbases about Steemit!

There's not much to earn on steem...

At the moment there isn't, but getting paid anything is better than nothing & it's fairly low effort to post an embedded youtube link on steemit.

If Steemit rises in value, then the payouts are far greater.

Point is, low payout because of low marketcap shouldn't be a roadblock for recruiting YouTubers.
