video editors for YouTubers. What is the best to suit your needs? (free vs paid)

I run the the youtube channel captain cabinet where I usually post funny memes, edits and some gaming content (example in my other blogs). When running this channel for around a year I have only ever used one video editor, davinci resolve 12. This is only for one main reason... it free!

After hours of reviews and advice this is the editor was the one that I belied was the best free software out there. It offer basic function like cutting, zooms and other video altering. This editor also comes along with a nice black and gray astetic which is perfect for editing at 4 am (if you are like me). However as I'm trying to grow my channel I have looked into how I can make my videos better. This lead to look into alternatives with the main one being Sony Vagas. This means I will be able to use new tools that could improve my quality. However the negatives of this maybe. 1: There would be a new UI I would have to learn from scratch 2: the price tag. As a student I cant afford to buy drinks at the bar so a new editing software is probably off the cards. As my channel is only a fun hobbie So if there is anyone reading this (which is doubtful looking at my other posts) what software would you recommend and are there any other good free alternatives?
