Mike Maloney: Demographics That Mandate Selling in the MarketsteemCreated with Sketch.

in youtube •  8 years ago  (edited)

In this video Mike Maloney talks about a U.S. law that will force the selling bonds and stocks held in portfolios. As the Baby Boomer generation (those born between 1946 and 1964) turn 70 years of age, they face a mandatory (by law: Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974) minimum distribution from their IRA's. In general, over the next 25 years the demographics for retirement accounts could lead to three new sellers for every new buyer.

Mike Maloney explains what this could mean for the markets in the following video:

Mike is the best, great post!

strange this video was published in the future

is this worldwide what Mike is talking about or just in the USA?

I am not certain about the demographics of other countries. There could be a similar baby boom generation in other countries too. But in general in the western nations, as I understand it, there are less and less younger people working to support an aging population in or near retirement.

I believe the demographics Mike Maloney uses is for the USA.

Thank you for the catch on the year. I was thinking about my own retirement. The year has been corrected.

Thanks again!
