YouTube Crypto Purge - It was all a big mistake?!steemCreated with Sketch.

It was all a big mistake on the part of YouTube?

YouTube finally responded after days of crypto related content being removed from the platform...

And it was a very interesting response.

It almost sounds like it was some sort of mistake on their part, or at least that is what they are claiming:

This is not the only response like this being seen by crypto YouTubers.

As I type, crypto-related content is being re-enabled on YouTube after days of unilateral deletions and non-communication from the video giant.

As far as I know, this was the first official response from YouTube to anyone.

I don't buy it...

You are telling me that the 2nd biggest social media platform in the world "accidentally" started removing crypto related videos, which caused a massive uproar all over the interwebz, and then took close to a week to remedy it?!

I don't think so.

I think this was YouTube realizing this was going to be a very big deal and decided they better not go through with this for fear of alienating and losing large amounts of their users and audience.

They may restore the videos, but they can't restore the trust.

It's too late YouTube, even the users that stay will start also posting their content elsewhere on decentralized platforms.

Steem is ready and waiting.

In a few years we will look back on this moment as the start of an irreversible trend.

A trend away from centralized giants and towards a more decentralized future.

Thank you for kicking things off YouTube, we sincerely appreciate it!

Stay informed my friends.

Google does not make mistakes of that magnitude. This is no mistake. The plan is pretty clear now. They bloody want rid of cryptocurreny.

It looked like they were mainly taking down videos that linked to external websites, at least that is what I had read. Probably saying that the creators could be promoting a scam of some sort if YouTube hadn't vetted the link.

Good points, this attack is actually the best advertising for decentralized platforms. If you dont (co-)own the platform, it's not your content. Users are starting to realize this now.

Yep, hopefully this benefits steem. Though, compared with LBRY and Justin Sun, and a few others, steem (and the apps built on it) aren't getting nearly as much promotion as those others...

Dtube/3speak ftw.

Yep, hopefully they are able to snag a few from all of this.

I already use Dtube

Good deal.

They want to get rid of everything except XRP

Who is "they" in this instance?

Google as they own youtube and have invested in XRP.

The same thing happens with Facebook in 2017 with the ICO craze. This touches only a small audience in the whole internet sphere.

They restored the videos as we speak, YouTube is hard to beat in term of speed and easy to use in comparison with what exists in the crypto sphere.

Very true, but this was likely the start of the turning point. Over the next decade there will be a massive transition from centralized to decentralized. There hasn't been this move yet because a good alternative doesn't exist yet.

Google Maps, Google Translate, YouTube.... Not the first or last bad decision Google has made with their products... They want people to use better alternatives if available because they don't have enough staff to moderate user contributions... It's like the literal "WTF" in Google Translate when you entered specific source text that had nothing to do with "WTF"... Some names were also translated to non-sense... Apparently some local cat was large contributor to Google Maps, before they cleared the associated metadata and restarted the map data collection.

Ha, could be... it has sure seemed that way.

It's a constant battle between Google and Microsoft... It's no secret that Microsoft has a lot to do with what happens on sites like Facebook. I think Mozilla already lost the battle with Google as their products have had major issues lately and that means people use them only if they have no other choice. Thunderbird is still an exception as there is no desktop e-mail client from Google.

What a wake up call for the crypto community. YouTube tested the waters and found its going to be harder to make people forget crypto than they thought. YouTube made for a memorable Christmas Crypto purge and that will hopefully point people to look into decentralized platforms now rather than later.

The war on crypto is now official.

Yep, I agree. I think this was the start of a trend.

I personally think it only helps decentralized platforms gain exposure.

Yep, I think so as well. Exactly the kinds of things we need to get the movement started.

Quite the cock-up on Youtube's part, intentional or not, and another addition to Youtube's list of mistakes for 2019. Not a great end to the year for them, and certainly not for those content creators that had lost days worth of revenue (did Youtube even reimburse them? ).

In any case, decentralised platforms are always ready to take more people if mainstream apps like YouTube aren't willing to accept them.

I haven't read anything that says they did reimburse anyone, but I would be shocked if they did.

Neither did I find any news on that. While I do hope for it, I don't think they would've reimbursed anyone, knowing YouTube.
