Smartphones are phones that provide features that are above and beyond the simple ability to make phone calls. While terms can be used fairly for all phone types, smartphones are usually understood as mobile phones and not home phones. Over the years, the concept of smart phones has continued to evolve as hand tools have become more sophisticated.

The Short Story

The first phone to consider smartphone designed by IBM in 1992. Named Simon, the device made an appearance at COMDEX that year and was offered to the public the following year. Some useful features that until then have only been available on desktops and laptops included in the function.

Simon includes a calculator, a simple notebook, the ability to send and receive faxes, and an email component. In a short time, this device also provided some games for the users to enjoy, as well as a useful world clock that allows users to view the current time in major cities around the world.
