YONKER YOUNKER - YUNK YUNKER

I am not as young as I once was so when it comes to new things I get a little confused. The fact is I didn't understand all this yunker, it didn't make sense. Perhaps it was because I was getting it mixed up with the word yonker, which is a word that for all practical purposes is no longer used. Anyway let me clear the confusion as I now understand.

Used in a sentence-

I was then a younker (alt. spelling), and went out with the Delawares, because I know'd they were a scandalized and wronged race.

This sentence comes from The Last of the Mohicans by James Fenimore Cooper. You can see how the language is a bit too old fashioned.

This is a photo of me taken in 1956, I was in the third grade, an innocent yonker from Chicago.

Word Origin

Yunker is a contemporary word of uncertain origin. It is a word of universal appeal; I mean after all, who wouldn’t want to be known as a yunker?

Used in a sentence-

He was a yunker, not because he lived in the ultra hip section of Philadelphia known as the Yonk, but because he was mysterious and wise.

He wasn’t trying to be a leader, or trying to be cool, he was simply a yunker being who he was and doing it with class.

2017 YUNKER

This is another photo of me some 60 years after my third grade yonker photo. It was taken at the beach and at I time when I was just beginning my transformation into a yunker.
