ZetoChain: A food safety solution combining blockchain and IoT technologies

Food transportation has its own unique challenges. Probably the most critical of those is food safety. It is not enough to simply get the food to the consumer in time: the food must also be fresh. That means arranging its shipping through a temperature-controlled supply chain, or “cold chain”. However, there are many weak links in this chain. How will ZetoChain work?

All participants in the cold chain (from food processors through transport drivers and carriers to retailers) will be able to trace the movement and the condition of their products in real time and throughout the transportation process by using a special mobile app. This will be achieved with the help of existing Zeto real time monitoring systems and a “smart” ZetoLabel, created using a separately sold printer and attached to the product's barcode at the beginning of the chain. The app will be used to register the product on the blockchain and input all the necessary details, including their acceptable temperature and humidity ranges. These conditions will be stored using smart contracts.

The barcode will be scanned upon the product's arrival at a new link in the chain (such as a warehouse or a plane) to confirm its movement. Sensors will record and pass on micro-climate information on the blockchain and use it to update local food safety records. If any problems occur, all relevant users will be notified immediately. A separate app designed for end customers will allow them to check the transportation history of any product shipped with ZetoChain's help they see in a store by scanning their ZetoLabel.

Participation (whether it is checking a product's history or carrying out a delivery) will be rewarded using ZetoTokens (ZETO); additionally, client companies will be able to reward their staff and customers according to their own schemes. While it will be possible for “cold chain” users to acquire the ZetoChain software license and all the necessary hardware and other products and services using fiat currency, they will receive a considerable discount if they used ZETO instead. It will also be possible to use ZETO to acquire market data provided on a voluntary and anonymised basis by the companies.

What are ZetoChain's advantages?
