The Mandalorian review - What a surprise!

The fourth episode of The Mandalorian will be released tomorrow. I had no intention of enjoying this series, but now I actually look forward to the upcoming episodes. What has happened? Find out what made me, an average Star Wars fan, actually enjoy this brand new Disney+ series a lot!

I like good movies. I like action-movies. I like dramas and thrillers, at least if they make me curious and manage to keep my attention. I like Star Wars movies. Not because they are part of the Star Wars universe, but because they provide good action in a cool universe, and since they are well-made. But, I had my doubts about The Mandalorian before its arrival. How would Jon Favreau be able to create a Star Wars series that is worth watching for episode after episode, and for several seasons?

My first impression of The Mandalorian

As I watched the first episode, I felt like this is just a series that is carrying the Star Wars name but without having anything to do with Star Wars at all. But, the end of the first episode (as a Yoda-like character showed up), made the connection and it also made me curious. The second episode gave me the chance to enjoy an awesome battle between our hero (The Mandalorian) and a rhinoceros (or something like that). It was cool, but still - I didn't feel that strong connection to the series. Of course, the element when the young Yoda-like character proved he had some special capabilities was a highlight, and it made me curous to see what will happen from here. But still...

In the third episode, that is when I decided that this is a TV series for me. Do you know why? It is when The Mandalorian became a human being that I actually like. Instead of hunting for a new bounty, he decides to go after and try to protect the special creation he found (for a big amount of money) in the first episode. He lost his cynicism, and instead, he became a character that I respect and enjoy the presence of. I also feel much safer in his presence (if I can say it like that), and now I am really looking forward to seeing where this journey will take us in the coming seasons and episodes.

I never thought that I would enjoy the series (this much), but now I count the hours until the release of a new episode of The Mandalorian on Disney6+ tomorrow (on November 29th). There will be four more episodes coming in December, and the final episode (number 8) will be released on December 27th.

I have read quite a lot of other reviews of The Mandalorian, and I must say that they are positive (95% of them). This is really a masterpiece by Jon Favreau, and I have to give all credit for what he has done so far. He has managed to satisfy one of the pickiest and hardest to satisfy audiences in the world, the Star Wars fans. That in itself is a giant deed! Congrats!
