I just HAD to SHOOT it....

Look at what I just killed.

Yes, a "little" furry creature is now dead because of me. I'm not trying to provoke anyone or brag, but rather just to share life experiences. First off, this thing is HUGE, in my opinion. It's a rat, that's about the size of a squirrel. It's been raiding some of our animal feed lately and even "leaving droppings" (pooping) under our house. While I certainly so appreciate the beauty and incredible-ness of this creature, it just didn't have a purpose on our homestead, and therefore I made my decision.

Much like a mole or opossum, it has some amazingly soft and luxurious fur. I was rather impressed with that, along with the size. Thankfully, these are few and far between around here.... and now we've got one less. So, what would you have done if you encountered one outside of your house? Would you take the shot, or let it go? Feel free to let me know.

Rats carry disease and reproduce at a ridiculous rate. I would have eliminated it too. Besides, it's ginormous!

I hear that. I let the Little-Peppers look, but no touching!

It's called taking dominion, bro. :) And Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas @papa-pepper! To you and your family of peppers HA HA. That rat looks like a New York rat. It's looks the size of a rabbit.

The fact that you haven't yet understood its purpose in the web of life on your homestead, doesn't mean it didn't have one.

Howdy sir papa-pepper! That one there is a Texas sized rat, I'd be shootin any of those I saw!

They have there place....just not around a homestead!

Yep! They gotta go! They carry too many diseases, and they poop everywhere. Not to mention: just a few can lead to an infestation in no time!

Big question @papa-pepper, did you hit where you aimed? Most rodents are kind of like that, but the snout doesn't quite look like a "Rat",,, Could be a hybrid of some sort, but looks kind of "Chinchilla-ish". Only time I ever saw a rat that size was in SE Asia in 1969... I thought it was a large squirrel then, Then I found the locals BBQ'd them...
Merry Christmas to all!!!

possibly a "muskrat?

I would of let it go after all they are few and far between around here....

Hello my friend! :D

I too would have shot at it, (though with my worsening eyesight, I'd have probably missed it completely), I'd have scared the tar out of it though I'm sure. :D LOL. :D

Wishing you and your fantastic family a very Merry Christmas and an even better New Year. :D

God bless you and your wonderful family. :D Have an awesome day my fabulous friend! :D

Reminds me of an old cartoon, starring Biggy Rat and Itchy Brother.

Oh dear - but I wish you Happy Christmas 💚❤️
