Post Apocalyptic Sword

in art •  7 years ago

Here is a post apocalyptic sword I built today. The best way to make something look like it is good for a particular purpose, and made in a particular situation, is to have it actually be that. To that end, I used only scavenged materials, limited myself to only the TIG welder (the welds are very similar to oxy-acetylene torch welds), even though the MIG would have been easier for parts, and generally tried to keep everything in line with a "limited resources" kind of mindset. I also tried to come up with a good excuse for every part on the sword. Obviously aesthetics were important to me, but I did make sure that everything I welded on had a functional purpose. This was a good exercise in low resource engineering, and a pretty cool result.Sword1.jpg

Would fit straight in Fallout 4!

Thanks! I have not gotten to play Fallout 4 yet. But I enjoyed 3, so some day. That is definitely the cobbled together look I was going for.

Excellent. Then keep at it. You will find, if you might have the time in the future, that Fallout 4 is even better than its predecessor. I wish you lots of fun in advance, I know what's coming for you! :D

That knife is really cool

Thanks.

I love how you tagged "post-apocalypse". So cool.

Thanks, glad you like it!

nice one, you'll have to be a careful swordsman, or woman to avoid accidentally commiting Hari-Kari

but a formidable post-apocalyptic weapon that's for sure, will rush to your side

Thanks. I think it would be fun to learn to sword fight, although I doubt there is anyone who teaches it near where I live. I definitely enjoyed building this though.

Wow thats awesome work.

Thanks!

Wow! For me look like a steampunk sword :)

Thanks! I do a lot of steampunkish work, so that is not surprising.

very creative i always wanted to get into sword making and always love d the sword show they did on history channel forged in fire where this man form an island made all the power tools in hand tools because he was more comfortable with hand tools and won.

Thanks! I have wanted to make a sword for a long time, but have never gotten around to it until this weekend. This sword did not require a forge of course, so it was a lot less work than it would be to make a comparably detailed and interesting sword using actual sword making techniques. I used to be a bit like the guy you are talking about. I would use my trusty hacksaw instead of power tools to cut most things. Later, I got power tools I actually liked, and the hacksaw does not get used nearly as much as it did. It does still have it's place though.

I like how you incorporated car parts into it :)

Thanks, It is made entirely from scrap you might find in a ranch or farm shop.

Looks like something from MadMax.

That is the idea.

nice

When the zombie apocalypse happens, can we be friends?

Sure, we can defi... Wait, how do I know you aren't a zombie trying to trick me?

Dang, this is almost too badass.

Thanks!
