No, she was playing flute :) I am not sure she will find it funny - right now she is more concerned that I am not allowing her to have a profile on TikTok, and she really likes to have social media profiles on all the mainstream data-collecting sites. I have told her that we will discuss it when she is 13 and shown her the site guidelines.
The oldest is a grown up now. She has become very privacy aware, but when she was 11 she also wanted to be like everybody else...
To me the most important is that I can discuss it with them and then letting themselves decide later.
Also... I just thought about another aspect - the explicit humour - I think she is immune to that. Not only because of my art, but also because their mother is pretty explicit in anything she does or says :)

There must be a lot of pressure on kids to join these things and I expect lots do so before the official minimum age. Its a different world to when we were young. Thankfully my kids were not too bothered about social media and they are old enough to judge for themselves now.

I would have allowed it if i knew it was important, but her friends and her are still mostly doing things offline. I think TikTok rank lower than getting a bird, dancing, moving to the same town as her grandparents and tons of other things. When they become teenagers they will probably use it more, but also be better at understanding the world. It was like that with my eldest daughter. Children are often smarter than we give them credit for. But if it becomes social pressure it is indeed bad. Hopefully we will, as grown ups be better at organising in decentralised ways in the future.
