This is a great piece, like the American SW meets a computer processor chip. What do you usually lay out first when starting an undertaking like this?

Thanks, glad you dig the vibe! For this style of my art, I start by outlining the big blocks of background color. Then I add outline for some of the details, like the design in the little rectangular part at the bottom, and the pink/purple/blue section outlined in white on the right. Some of the details I add after, on top of the background color. I really enjoy working in this style, it's a bit less "rigid" compared to the symmetry of my Mandala art.
