Among so many things that caught my attention at the Olympics, was something I could see happening in athletics, specifically in sprint races. The reality of it all is that the pressure you must feel are at the starting point must be very great, especially in those short races, not to say that for example a marathon, or half marathon, does not involve great pressure, but sprint races usually last less than a minute, and even, as in the case of the 100 meters flat, less than 10 seconds.
For this reason it is logical to think that any mistake that causes you to start even a few tenths of a second late can mean that you will be left behind in the race and make it difficult for you to achieve any place among the first places. So the possibility of going out before the starting gun is quite high, but this time making that mistake could be very costly.
In the semifinal of the 100 meters flat, I could see that some of the favorites were in one of the elimination heats to advance to the final, and the judges indicated that they could place themselves in their respective places, and they said, the starting signal is the last one they give, so they get ready, on their marks ready? and there was a runner who left before they gave the starting signal, he returned to his place, while the others stood, waiting for him to join, but immediately one of the judges arrived, stood in front of the runner who had gone ahead, and took out a kind of red card, so he was eliminated at that moment.
I was surprised that only for a foul he was expelled from the competition, I can not imagine what that athlete felt at that moment to know that for that mistake they took away the possibility of winning and qualifying, that possibility for which he had prepared for so long, but it is so, it is a hard rule, but it forces athletes to have the maximum concentration before and during the race.
I do not know what to think, whether or not to agree, because a mistake like that can be made by anyone, although those who get to be in these competitions are the best in the world, so the best is expected of them, and rushing at the start is a mistake that is not forgiven, and it really comes out expensive.
